Happy Birthday Willie Nelson

Happy Birthday to Willie Nelson, who turns 75 on April 30th.Sony/Columbia/Legacy just released the very appropriately titled 4-CD box set called ‘One Hell Of a Ride.’ It features 100 songs that Willie made famous. Or made Willie famous. Whatever. It’s a great career spanning package, no matter what.

Steve Winwood’s Nine Lives

Steve Winwood’s Nine Lives CD is finally available today! I’ve only heard a couple of tracks from it, because I bought the single from iTunes already. The “Dirty City” video is below, which features Eric Clapton on a smokin’ guitar solo.So I’m getting this CD today. It doesn’t matter that Winwood hasn’t released anything in years. He still sounds just as fresh and relevant today as yesterday. You know the shows Winwood recently played with Clapton at Madison Square Garden still sounds as good today as they did 30 years ago.

PLUS…Steve Winwood is touring with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Wow, these will be great shows for sure! You just can’t miss with a double bill like this. And Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers always deliver the goods onstage. The band have created so many great tunes over the last thirty years, it’s hard to imagine how they stay so creative.

Zappa Plays Zappa on DVD

Here’s a concert event you really want to own on DVD! Dweezil’s Zappa Plays Zappa concert tour. Actually there’s 2 versions of this new release. The 2-disc DVD set is called the Brilliant Box, which runs 205 minutes.

The 5-disc limited edition fanpack features the double-DVD set and 3 audio CD’s containing the entire concert, totaling 270 minutes. Both will be released Tuesday April 29th.

You know this has to be good, because Dweezil studied Frank’s music for years before pulling together this awesome touring ensemble. I saw the first leg of this tour in Grand Prairie in December 2006 and every one of these band members just blew away the audience, with Dweezil conducting and playing with the zeal only a true Zappa can accomplish.
