I went to the first festival in Dallas and it was truly awesome. It started on Friday night and went all day Saturday and Sunday. Plus there was the auction and guitar show with exhibits and workshops all weekend, inside the Fair Park exhibit buildings where the State Fair of Texas is held each year. The Cotton Bowl was really hot that June, but the line-up of musicians was fantastic.
And this year’s show will probably be just as good. Clapton of course will be jamming with everyone, plus his band in his own headlining set.
Coming back for another Crossroads Guitar Festival will be; Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, B.B. King, James Burton, Jimmie Vaughan, Sheryl Crow, David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos, ZZ Top, Steve Winwood, Robert Randolph, and Louisiana slide guitar wizard Sonny Landreth.
Also on the bill: Albert Lee, Doyle Bramhall II, Hubert Sumlin, Joe Bonamassa, John Mayer, Vince Gill and ZZ Top. Some of these guys were also at the first Crossroads, so it’s a home-coming of sorts. Wish J.J. Cale was coming back too!
Both previous guitar festivals were captured on DVD, so I’m sure this summer’s show will be no different. With this many great musicians on stage, you can watch and wail as many times as you want!
