Happy Birthday Paul McCartney

One of my favorite artists is 66 years old as of today. Composer, singer, songwriter, musician, MBE, former Beatle and Wing Sir James Paul McCartney.

Born June 18th, 1942, he is listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history. No doubt with 60 gold records and sales of 100 million singles. Plus he’s got the most covered song in history “Yesterday,” which was his first “solo” record with The Beatles.

Happy Birthday Willie Nelson

Happy Birthday to Willie Nelson, who turns 75 on April 30th.Sony/Columbia/Legacy just released the very appropriately titled 4-CD box set called ‘One Hell Of a Ride.’ It features 100 songs that Willie made famous. Or made Willie famous. Whatever. It’s a great career spanning package, no matter what.

Ella Fitzgerald

Ella Fitzgerald (April 25, 1918 – June 15, 1996) from Newport News, Virginia, was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century. In her lifetime, she won 13 Grammy awards and sold over 40 million albums.

Her three octave vocal range was widely celebrated, and is well known for developing a “scat” style of singing. She was also known as the “First Lady of Song” and is considered one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th Century.
