Happy Birthday Neil Young

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite songwriters Neil Young. The Old Man is 63 today!

I remember a Neil Young concert at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas when he did a two-part show; the first half was acoustic, just him and his guitar and harmonica. After a short intermission, Neil came back rockin’ with a full band and proceeded to burn down the house!

Neil Young is an amazing performer, the way he plays guitar, sings and trades off on harmonica. So easy and effortless, a natural talent channeling his emotion and intellect through songs of life and love.

So what’s happening with Neil Young today?

New American Tour Dates are now posted on www.neilyoung.com.

His next Live album, Sugar Mountain: Live at Canterbury House 1968, will be released on November 25th.

The long-awaited Archives Volume 1 (1963-1972) now has a tentative release date of Jan. 27th, 2009. This is an 8-CD, 2-DVD collection featuring rare, unreleased studio & live recordings, never-before-seen film footage, personal photos and letters, and a 150-page book. The Reprise Records website still says “it’s coming in 2007!” There’s a link to a short trailer on this page.

LincVolt is “repowering the American dream” with it’s green car conversion of Neil’s 1959 Lincoln. It’s using a CNG engine to power an electric drive with system wheels driven by battery power, and gets 50MPG. There’s a bigger initiative at work to get the country on-board and on the road with converting cars to some kind of alternative fuel.

I like the LincVolt vision statement on their website:
Our goal is to inspire a generation by creating a clean automobile propulsion technology that serves the needs of the 21st Century and delivers performance that is a reflection of the driver’s spirit.

Led Zeppelin Mini LP Box Set due Nov.11

It was forty years ago (1968) when the Yardbirds finally disbanded and Jimmy Page assembled the mighty Led Zeppelin. In fact, the band’s first few gigs were billed as “The New Yardbirds,” but that didn’t last for long, as Led Zeppelin quickly defined their enormous sound and began their historic ascent to stardom.

Happy Birthday Rick Grech

Rick Grech is best known for his bass guitar, cello and violin work with some of my favorite bands, Blind Faith and Traffic.
He was born November first, 1946 in Bordeaux, France, and died at age 43 in March of 1990. Rock and roll history places him in very good company in the sixties and [...]
