Christie’s Auction shines with Hendrix and The Beatles

Christie’s auction had a lot of Classic Rock and Roll, mixed with a little pop up for sale on Monday. The little pop was the Britney Spears school book page that sold for $240, while Hendrix, Lennon and McCartney items fetched a bit more.

04 December 2006 – Sale No: 1730Total sold: $1,117,920

Among the items sold were…

A 1968 Fender Stratocaster in sunburst finish owned by Jimi Hendrix 1969-1970 sold for $168,000

A rare page of working lyrics in Paul McCartney’s hand for Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, 1968, went for $192,000

A rare and important notebook belonging to Neville Garrick, former Art Director to Bob Marley And The Wailers, 1974-1981, containing lyrics and set lists in Bob Marley’s hand was sold for $72,000.

It’s amazing how an item can vary between estimated value and actual worth…for example, a framed Led Zeppelin album cover autographed by all four band members was estimated between $600 to $800, and was actually sold for $10,800!

If you have never browsed the Christie’s website you might consider taking a little time to check it out. When there are music related auctions it can be very educational and entertaining.
