Grateful Dead Dancing in the Street

Grateful Dead playing “Dancing In The Streets?”

The song is from their album Terrapin Station, which was 1977 during the big disco era, so I guess I can’t blame them for recording it.

But it just sounded so out of character for The Dead. I’d feel the same way if the Osmonds recorded “Casey Jones.”

I heard this playing over MusicChoice, one of those awful canned music channels the cable companies push over your TV. But it’s easy to tune in when you need some background music to fill the void.

Hearing Grateful Dead play such a Top 40 song surprised me so much I had to put down the new book I’m reading called “I Am Ozzy.” I rushed over to the screen staring is disbelief.

Yeah, it’s the Dead playing one of Motown’s hit songs, recorded by Martha and the Vandellas in 1964. I guess even Jerry Garcia was a Motown fan.
