Happy Birthday Michael Nesmith

Michael Nesmith, musician, songwriter, actor, producer, novelist and former Monkee, celebrates his birthday today, born on December 30th, 1942.

After The Monkees, he formed the First National Band in 1969, with longtime collaborator Red Rhodes. Nesmith is also credited with helping establish the genre of country-rock, along with Gram Parsons, the Flying Burrito Brothers, New Riders of the Purple Sage and Poco.

Did you know his pioneering work in music video clips resulted in MTV? Nesmith also won the first Grammy Award for Video of the Year for Elephant Parts in 1981.
