The Telegraph reports there is a letter from Paul McCartney written in response to a local help wanted ad for a drummer. The interesting thing about this new find is that the letter was discovered inside a book at a Liverpool rummage sale.
The letter is dated August 12th, 1960, just days before The Beatles left for a tour of Hamburg, Germany. History shows Pete Best was hired as the drummer for the Beatles just days before the band left for their first German tour. We may never know who the drummer was that was advertising for work, since he never answered McCartney’s reply, but who knows how that might have changed rock-and-rock history?
The handwritten letter is expected to sell for as much as £9,000 at auction next month, according to sources at Christie’s.
