January 2012 Birthdays

A few recent birthdays we would like to acknowledge…

January 3, 1926 George Martin – You may say “oh he’s a producer not an artist,” but in my book, Sir George Martin IS an artist.  Just consider all the arrangements he contributed to the recorded works of The Beatles. He even played piano on some of their earlier recordings.

I really LOVE Martin’s Beatles remix album done with his son Giles!

January 3, 1945  Stephen Stills – His contributions to pop and rock music are staggering. Buffalo Springfield, C, S & N, Manassas,  and all of his amazing solo albums.

For What It’s Worth, here’s Stephen Stills performing at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta last year.

January 3, 1946 John Paul Jones – Amazing bass lines and keyboards in Led Zeppelin. Very active with soundtrack albums and film scores, and producer. Not to mention his solo albums. Plus his work with Them Crooked Vultures.

John Paul Jones performing an acoustic number on a triple neck guitar; 6 and 12-string with mandolin; amazing!

January 9, 1944 Jimmy Page – Extraordinary guitarist and songwriter, from The Yardbirds through Led Zeppelin. Plus he produced all the Zeppelin albums, and then remastered the entire catalog. Also his work with The Firm, Paul Rodgers, and the Unledded albums with Robert Plant. Not to mention his solo albums. What an amazing career.
