Led Zeppelin Mini LP Box Set due Nov.11
It was forty years ago (1968) when the Yardbirds finally disbanded and Jimmy Page assembled the mighty Led Zeppelin. In fact, the band’s first few gigs were billed as “The New Yardbirds,” but that didn’t last for long, as Led Zeppelin quickly defined their enormous sound and began their historic ascent to stardom.
The long-awaited Led Zeppelin boxed set of Mini-LP replica CDs will finally be released on November 11. Fans and music collectors note: these are limited-edition high-quality Japanese imports featuring the original UK album artwork for all ten of the band’s album releases.
Led Zeppelin (1969)
Led Zeppelin II (1969)
Led Zeppelin III (1970)
Led Zeppelin IV (1971)
Houses of the Holy (1973)
Physical Graffiti (1975)
Presence (1976)
The Song Remains the Same (1976)
In Through the Out Door (1979)
Coda (1982)
An interesting record label note on the first Zeppelin album. Rhino Entertainment has included the original printing of the band’s debut album; Atlantic used turquoise ink on the cover for the band’s name and the Atlantic Records logo. This box set comes complete with both versions of that collectible first album cover, the limited turquoise ink, and also the orange ink that following in the second printing of the cover art.
Album art is one of my favorite aspects of collecting LPs. The foldout or gatefold album cover was always a joy to behold because there was so much to take in. Led Zeppelin II was so cool with it’s vintage style cover photo and graphics. Led Zeppelin III with the rotating laminated disc provided hours of enjoyment while listening.
Two of Led Zeppelin’s albums were nominated for a Grammy Award. Physical Graffiti for best album package with it’s interchangeable window illustrations from the original LP jacket; it actually had four covers made up of two inner sleeves, a middle insert and an outer cover.
In Through the Out Door, the band’s final studio album, was nominated for a Grammy for best album package. The six different covers featuring photos of the same bar scene from different perspectives are all included in this box set.
The Led Zeppelin Definitive Collection of Mini-LP Replicas Box Set isn’t priced for the average fan at a suggested retail of $199.98, but it is a collectors dream set. They probably won’t be in print for very long either.
