NAMM 2009
Ah, mid-January and time for the NAMM show in California, at the Anaheim Convention Center. There’s a ton of stuff going on through January 18th, and we’ll be showcasing our favorite artists, musicians and gear.
Some of our favorite guitarists are back onstage this year…Andy Timmons and Paul Gilbert are playing with their respective bands at the Sheraton Park Hotel. Plus Dread Zeppelin will be playing at the stroke of midnight, Danny Gottlieb will be at the BASIX Percussion Booth# 4468, and Pat Travers and Alice In Chains will be in Booth# 5710 for Dean Markley Strings.
Exciting events: Fender’s Frontline Live: Last year Dick Dale performed his classic surf music on a gold Strat. (Surf and shred?) Billy Gibbons also jammed on a nice vintage Telecaster with Jimmie Vaughan. One of our favorite interactive exhibits is the John Lennon Bus, which sports it’s own indoor/outdoor stage.
Our old friend Bill Clements is back at NAMM this year. Catch this amazing one-armed and dangerous bass player at 3:00 pm Thursday afternoon on the Anaheim Convention Center Outdoor Stage (between Halls B & C.) It’s like watching Joe Satriani play bass (they both shred like crazy!) See for yourself in this YouTube Video of Bill Clemens demonstrating his Marco Cortez bass.
The NAMM All-Star Lobby Jam will feature Spencer Davis, Alan White, Joe Vitale, Seymour Duncan, Dave Santos and Bobby Kimball, among other world-class musicians.
The Latin Percussion 45th Anniversary Concert will offer an extraordinary evening of Latin jazz, featuring some of the world’s most respected percussionists like Raul Rekow and Karl Perazzo of Santana, plus the Latin Giants of Jazz (aka The Tito Puente Orchestra.) And that’s just the first couple of days, so stay tuned for more exciting news from NAMM 2009.
Search YouTube for NAMM video and you’ll find some great one-of-a-kind performances, because NAMM is not open to the public, only music merchandisers. But these videos are the next best thing. Plus we’ll see some exciting new and improved music gear in the months to come.
