Primal Twang

Primal Twang is the first definitive theatrical journey through the guitar’s colorful and surprisingly controversial 3500-year history.

That’s the opening statement on their website primaltwang.com. It’s all about the guitar; it’s history and it’s heritage.

I just saw Primal Twang on KLRN, the PBS station in San Antonio. It’s a great documentary about the guitar, with performances by Eric Johnson, who does a blazing version of Hendrix’s “Axis: Bold As Love,” plus his own Grammy winning instrumental “Cliffs of Dover.”

Another great performance is by Mason Williams, reprising his “Classical Gas” with a full band. Primal Twang also features Albert Lee, Doc & Richard Watson, Dan Crary, John Doan and Andrew York. It’s a fascinating six-string journey.
