Ramblin’ Rock & Roll Trivia
It’s amazing what rock and roll trivia you can find in Wikipedia…here’s a look back at November 1969…
November 1st: After seven years off the top of the charts, Elvis Presley’s song “Suspicious Minds”, hits Number One on the Billboard charts. It was the last time any Elvis song hit Number One, while he was still alive.
November 7th: The Rolling Stones open their U.S. tour in Fort Collins, Colorado. The band debuts several new songs live including “Gimmie Shelter” (with backing vocals by female vocalist Merry Clayton), “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” and “Midnight Rambler.”
November 8th: Simon and Garfunkel go out on tour for the first time with a band. Their first live concert takes place in Carbondale, Illinois, presumably at Southern Illinois University. The concert is not released until 1999, called Village Vanguard, on Head Records.
November 30th: Simon and Garfunkel appear on a nationwide TV special entitled Songs Of America; an hour-long show that is anti-war and anti-poverty featuring live footage from their 1969 tour.
Man, talk about setting your clocks back! That’s forty years of classic rock!!
