Reflections of Graham Nash
Happy Birthday to Graham Nash, who was born on February 2nd, 1942. One of my favorite British singers and songwriters, he’s a major part of two huge groups; The Hollies, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Now forty years later, Nash just released a major retrospective CD set called Reflections, and is gearing up for tour dates with old friends David Crosby and Stephen Stills.
I was stunned the first time I heard “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.” I was driving around San Antonio at the time, and nearly had to pull off the road. I just couldn’t believe the vocal harmonies I was hearing from my radio. I became a fan from their very first LP. (Hey Kids, LP is an ancient 60′s term for record album, kinda like a big vinyl CD, but it sounds better!)
In-between splits and reunions, Graham Nash and David Crosby made some awesome duo albums together. My favorite is from the mid-seventies called “Wind On The Water.” The album features a song called “To the Last Whale: Critical Mass/Wind on the Water.” Their vocals are so incredibly fine, the song will give you goosebumps.
If you’re looking for a definitive collection of Graham Nash songs, the new Reflections 3-CD set spans over forty years of his songs and music, from the Hollies through C, S, N & Y. It has 32 alternate versions, plus six unreleased tracks including “In Your Name, Try To Find Me, and Water From The Moon.” There’s also a 150-page booklet with photos and track notes by Graham Nash himself. This new deluxe package just came out, and Nash is on the move promoting it around the country.
This summer will mark the 40th anniversary of Crosby, Stills & Nash, and the group is planning on doing some tour dates to mark the occasion. They’re also working on a new album with producer Rick Rubin.
I feel “Deja Vu” comin’ on…”

I was fortunate enough to see Graham twice last year, once with David Crosby and once with Crosby & Stills. He still sounds absolutely amazing! I was just listening to Songs for Beginners and the songs are as relevant today as they were 40 years ago.
