The Sony Walkman just turned 30 years old, but the concept of personal entertainment is still going strong. Sales of Apple’s iPod has surpassed 200 million since it’s inception. Sony has sold 385 million of the various Walkman configurations. The portable cassette player eventually morphed to play a CD, then the miniDisc, and today digital music and video files.
The Associated Press has a great article about the Walkman’s 30th anniversary.
Sony has posted some interesting company history on it’s Walkman.
