Steve Howe
Steve Howe, one of our favorite guitarists, celebrates his birthday today. He was born April 8th, 1947, and cites his early influences as Les Paul and Chet Atkins, who could play any style of music on guitar.
Howe joined Yes in 1970 and helped create their prog rock sound. As the group’s lineup changed over the years, he left to form GTR and later joined Asia.
Steve Howe is currently touring with Asia in Europe and Japan. The band will tour the US this fall. Their new album ‘Omega’ will be available from Frontiers Records in May.
Steve Howe has also recorded 17 solo albums, and in recent years released several albums with his jazz group the Steve Howe Trio. The Trio just finished up a month of tour dates in the UK and have released their latest album ‘Travelling’ on HoweSound.
Did you know he also recorded with Lou Reed, The Dregs, Queen and Dream Theater?
Gibson Guitars has said that Steve Howe “elevated rock guitar into an art form” and “helped define a new style of music known as art rock.” In 2002, Gibson created the Steve Howe Signature ES-175.
Martin has also produced the MC-38 Steve Howe Limited Edition acoustic guitar.
The HoweEs175′s Channel on YouTube shows Steve Howe picking and strumming his favorites.
