Yes is one of my favorite progressive rock bands. The Yes Album, my first and favorite of their LP’s in 1971, got more spins than a presidential candidate in an election year. The band’s virtuosity on “Yours Is No Disgrace,” “Starship Trooper” and “I’ve Seen All Good People” is simply amazing.

What History Tells Us About the Market, WSJ: “In fact, the market is probably wrong again in its obsession over whether this decline will turn into a cataclysmic collapse. What’s clear from the behavior of European financial markets over the past two weeks is that the dramatic stories of financial meltdown and panic are deliberately being used by certain influential factions in and outside the EU to shape the future face of global banking in the wake of the US sub-prime and Asset-Backed Security (ABS) debacle. The most interesting development in recent days has been the unified and strong position of the German Chancellor, Finance Minister, Bundesbank and coalitio
Nobody expected industrial capitalism to end up like this. Nobody even saw it evolving in this direction. I’m afraid this failing is not unusual among futurists: The natural tendency is to think about how economies can best grow and evolve, not how it can be untracked. But an unforeseen road always seems to appear, and there goes society goes off on a tangent. What a two weeks! On Sunday, September 7, the Treasury took on the $5.3 trillion mortgage exposure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, whose h

It was an Anglican service ; this one had no singing. For communion you drank real wine. (Devon said it was very strong!) I just took a blessing from the Priest. While we were there we met some some very nice people. Then we took the tube to Baker Street. We visited 221B Baker Street and went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum. Then we

They're a fine band and in Alan Hull, they had one of this country's greatest songwriters. The band had a nifty way with a chorus (Clear White Light, January Song, Meet Me On The Corner, Run For Home) and their live shows were nothing short of incredible. It's a bit of a cop out but get hold of a Greatest Hits package and work your way from there. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Lindisfarne/dp/B0009WXGDW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF...
Scherer v. Ambinder: The E-Mails - Marc Ambinder This morning, I wrote a blog post arguing that John McCain was not serious about his William Ayers attacks. Later in the day Time's Michael Scherer, who has spent the past several months covering McCain with intelligence and sensibility, responded with a post saying that McCain was serious, to the extent that serious is a factor that matters. Mike and I continued our debate privately over email. As he writes, "After a few exchanges, we decided

For those who are considering voting for Senator Obama, you might want to check out this video at Macsmind. As the author states: As you might now, I have posted the Obama Wants to Disarm America Thread which has thankfully received nearly 250,000 page views. That’s good, and it’s getting the word out. However some lefties are complaining that the video is a hack job and it’s out of context. Therefore I present to you context. Protecting America by Disarming Her. Right. … Only 65 of the 199 Hou

McCain Defends His Rabid Crowds tags: mccain, elections08, racism The rabid nature of the scene has startled longtime political observers and even former associates of McCain himself. John Weaver, the Senator’s former top strategist, has said McCain is making a tactical mistake by letting abusive hecklers have their voices heard during his forums. David Gergen, a longtime Washington strategist, has warned that the rhetoric from these attendees could “lead to some violence.” Veteran Re
By Paul West Every so often, luck and circumstance give birth to an accidental congressman or senator, a politician who lands in Washington mainly by being in the right place at the right time. Once in a very long while, those accidents come in droves. That's what happened when Ronald Reagan's 1980 landslide helped turn a six-pack of Republican non-entities into U.S. senators. None ever won a Senate election again, and their now-forgotten names (Jim Abdnor, Mark Andrews, Jeremiah Denton,

The following discussion explores why the current practices of the advertising industry are inappropriate to the modern digital citizen and must be replaced by highly personalised campaigns. The advertising industry is commonly thought to be less than 100 years old. This may be the case if you added the words ‘as we know it’ in front,

CRASH CRASH CRASH! Brother, can you spare a dime? I think we can safely consider this a stock market crash. The S&P 500 has fallen 42 percent over the last year. The vast majority of that precipitous fall has occurred over the past two weeks. Today, the market closed with the Dow below 8600. I would check the balances on my retirement accounts, but they are quite literally disappearing into thin air! Hoo hoo ha ha ha! Glory be to Jesus! My dad is having a serious laugh over this mess some
