If you have never seen Derek Trucks play the guitar, you have really been missing something. He is the nephew of Allman Brothers drummer, Butch Trucks.

Who says classic rock is dead?
2007 was a big year for classic rock band reunions, with some really big tours (like Genesis) and special shows (like Spinal Tap appearing at Live Earth and the recent Led Zeppelin benefit concert.)
Musicians, singers & songwriters who turned 60 this year:

Gregg Allman just turned sixty years old on December 8th. But he’s “not about to let them catch up with the midnight rider.”
The Allman Brothers Band is one of my favorites from way back to 1970. From their first album Beginnings, I was a big fan. Songs like “Dreams” & “In [...]
I stopped in the local Best Buy Thursday to pick up a couple CDs and two things caught my attention. First, I see Best Buy is stocking vinyl LPs. That’s right, the things I grew up listening to. Now perhaps vinyl has made some technological advances over the last 35 years and these are undoubtedly high fidelity pressings, but I still have to wonder about a $29.99 price tag for most of the LPs. If that’s the going rate, I may need to insure my shelves of vinyl. I found it interesting how many
Summer Road Trip Songs Friday 10 October 2008 @ 5:50 pm There’s nothing like a great soundtrack for your road trip to really make the miles fly by. Rather than just bringing a collection of your favorite CDs, why not look into making your own mixed disc with all the favorite songs of everyone who will be going along on the trip. With the right tunes, you can really enjoy even the longest of road trips. Just think back to all the movies you’ve seen where they play upbeat music as the chara

Slide guitar playing in blues music had been popular for many years but not many people understand how this guitar playing style originated and the techniques used to produce this fascinating guitar sound. In the early twentieth century many American blues players began their careers playing music on a single string instrument called a diddley bow. This was a kid’s toy consisting of a wire stretched between two screws. It seems logical that without access to store bought instruments the emergi

I got this Touch somewhat as a mistake, (I asked for a 2G Touch), alas..I had to open it and try the headphone out VS my other players.. Never left my home office, nor been outside. Absolutely mint, a week or so old. I am sticking with my 5.5G video and 2G Touch with the phones I use. I have this up locally too but figured I would give a headfier a chance to own if interested. Comes with everything. I can leave the songs I initially loaded onto the unit to hear her purr if the buyer so c
Can anyone tell me why Animal Collective is naming their album after a concert amphitheater in my hometown of columbia md? Is this a live album recorded there? It doesn’t look like it. Merriweather is in one of the most culturally vapid, cookie cutter planned communities in the area. It doesn’t have any kind of real historical value to it besides the fact that I would go hang out in the parking lot for allman brothers and Buffett concerts when I was in middle school. Seriously, i saw Lilith F

Writing yesterday’s post got me thinking about my trip West and the first time I saw Big Sky Country. Driving through the western Dakotas and eastern Montana, I was awestruck. I understood for the first time, what Montana’s state motto meant. It was late summer and for as far as I could see there was ochre brush and azure sky. Vast, rich, wonderfully empty sky. Maybe it comes from living for three and half years in a part of the world where the sky is like a damp, grey woollen blanket that h
Hey kids, How’s the conclusion of ye olde humpa day going for you all? Me, pretty darn fantastic. I’m at my favorite place to be - HOME. I’m working on figuring out ways to get paid, without having to leave the house. In the meantime, here we are. I’ll start with a fun bit of humor that I came across today - a “literal” version of the a-ha video for “Take On Me.” Literally, it’s awesome. Dusto McNeato is the man behind the vid, and he’s got quite a few more funny vids that you can ch
Retro Music Snob Report: The previous post by the Housemartins got me thinking about the fact that the good instrumental song has faded away. In the 50's, 60's, and the 70's instrumentals flourished and charted. Drop a comment, and tell us what your favorite instrumentals are. The passing of Isaac Hayes started us thinking about cover songs, the tunes made popular, or not, by someone other than the original artists. In 1969, Hayes, known more for the theme from Shaft, made what would become a classic R&B cover of Glenn Campbell’s country ballad, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.” Hayes’ remake came in at a little over 18 minutes. Incidentally, Hayes also wrote “Soul Man,” the Sam and Dave hit that was covered by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as the Blues Brothers.

We have just had an email that is hot and we mean hot, yes Guitar Hero World Tour Set List (GHWT) tracklist has been officially unveiled. The list below is immense, in fact there are 86 tracks that spans over 40 years of cool music, the good thing about this list is that there is a track that will suit everyone. The list below is hot and we love it, this has to be the best set we have seen in a while. Guitar Hero World Tour is due out October 26 and is the first iteration in the series to
Since my post about Frank Sinatra's "Watertown" album almost... sort of... kind of... well, okay, came straight out and advocated downloading that out of print Frank-o-phile obscurity, this post will argue that sometimes the record industry does come up with some stuff worth buying... First off, it's bugged me for years --since the Napster days-- that the public is willing to put up with crappy sounding MP3 files! I simply do not get it! An MP3 is NOT a digital copy of exactly what's on the
