The 31st Annual Dallas International Guitar Festival and MusicFest was awesome, as usual. We saw some new things this year, like Trillium’s new tube guitar amps. The design and cabinetry caught my eye, and their great tone caught my ears, so I stopped to chat. Scott told me this is Trillium’s [...]

Hot off the internet press. :slash: Here's an excerpt I found interesting: "Have you ever talked guitar with people like Joe Perry and Jimmy Page? I was joking about this recently – whenever I hang out with guitar players, the last thing we want to talk about is guitars. I think guitar players are an interesting breed because we’re all very aware of how many of us there are and we’re also very aware of what the other guys are doing or what their sound is like and blah blah blah. But it
To say "Watchmen" is a much-anticipated film would be a drastic understatement. The legion of fans who have have memorized Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' landmark comic book series have been speculating about a 'Watchmen' film since the prehistoric days. You know, before the Internet. The wait will soon be over. The film, due out March 6, 2009 (provided Warner Bros. and Fox work out their legal difficulties) is almost finished. At a special presentation in New York Monday night, director Zack

Schools are expected to open as usual today. Erlewine also makes guitars, including ones for Paul McCartney and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons. His guitar playing days, however, were not over. Allison O’Malley, bachelor of science in therapeutic studies. There’s a tendency to demonise these guys, but when they really get into this stuff they start taking Alexander Technique courses to work on their posture, improv courses to be more enteral, going to vocal coaches or personal trainers or learning about
ROCKERS RECALL ‘SPINAL TAP’ MOMENTS October 8th, 2008 Pete Townshend, Ron Wood, Angus Young, and Billy Gibbons were asked by Guitar World magazine to name the “Most Spinal Tap Moment” of their careers. Hurm… Last night, I was among the TONY contingent at the Time Warner Center, attending an exclusive event debuting footage from this March’s comic-book-movie Rapture (say it with me), Watchmen. The greatest graphic novel of all time. The unfilmable superhero masterpiece. The Catcher in the Rye of comics, as it were. You’ve seen the preview, you’ve heard your boyfriend blab about it, you’ve leafed through the Entertainment Weekly cover story. Watchmen the movie exists, and it is a Hollywood p
See how they make Dr. Manhattan come to life in this excellent, and best, entry into the monthly Watchmen production blog series. See the awesome suit Billy Crudup had to where, as well as some new footage from the flick as well. Here that is over at scifi.com. Also, here is a Q&A with Dave Gibbons and Zach Snyder about the film as well from comingsoon.net. Only 5 more months! So EXCITED!
Bud from Beale on Broadway passed on an email and some pictures of ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, who stopped by the club last Monday night, the day before his band played the Fabulous Fox. It was just another magic Monday here at the club when we were treated to the presence of one rock 'n' roll's elite. His little ole band from Texas performed at the Fox last tuesday. I got to spend 10 minutes with Mr. Billy Gibbons himself (a real sharp dressed man) as he took a liking to my vintage guitar amp colle
Yesterday Warner Bros. let a couple hundred press and bloggers view a few more minutes of the highly anticipated Watchmen movie. Director Zach Snyder was on hand to talk about how "awesome" it all has been, how "awesome" the film will be and how "awesome" everything Watchmen-related will always be. It's been tense lately, what with the lawsuit against the studio and fears that it may be the most expensive film trailer for ever. I have to admit, I'm not one of the Watchmen worshipers. I've
Normally Rocks Off is not one to blow his own trombone, but forgive me for a second, because this is kind of a big deal. The Houston music scene - past, present and future - will be on the national stage all Rocktober long, because Rocks Off managed to convince the folks at Spin to let him write up our not-so-little bayou burg in the magazine's monthly "Rock City" feature. (I'm still not exactly sure how.) It was nearly impossible to narrow down who to include - and indeed, Rocks Off wound
Note: Part 1 of this interview is here; part 2 is here. Rocks Off: Did the band think you had a hit record when you wrapped the album? Billy Gibbons: Yeah. We were fairly confident we had stumbled into something that was really solid. In the middle of the disco craze, this was our solid rock music message, and it couldn’t have been stronger at the time. I don’t know, the Stones had gotten away with “Miss You” and Rod Stewart [sings], “Do ya think I’m sexy,” whatever that thing was. RO: But
