The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival started last Friday and runs through today, Sunday, April 27th. The annual festival is expected to draw over 200,000 music fans to Quakertown Park in Denton, Texas, this year.
You don’t want to miss a single performance from the award-winning jazz ensembles from the University of North Texas, [...]
As you know, I take the piss out of (at least the Jesusland incarnation of) America whenever I get a chance, but most Americans probably don’t realize that we Canadians take the piss out of ourselves just as often, if not more. Self-deprecation is a form of patriotism up here. Anyway, I note it’s been getting particularly harsh lately, and not necessarily just from these fine pages—-a situation I hope will be resolved, or at least addressed, by an Obama administration. But perhaps in anticipati
A shy looking man that entered our seminar room quietly: he crossed the hall so unnoticeably that it was only when he had walked and stood near the podium, did we realize that our guest speaker had arrived. Our college ‘Acad forum’ President introduced him. He went on narrating heroic tales of his bravery and courage; how he had dared to stand up against one enormous global power; how he had dared to defy the rules and dared to fight for his rights. A truly gallant determined man who fea
I know it’s already after Rosh Hashana but I really need to unload about my wonderful cooking experience with Kugel Yerushalmi (“Jerusalem Kugel”). For those of you who don’t know what a ‘kugel’ is, it is a baked Jewish side dish or sometimes dessert generally made with noodles to which are added liquified sugar and oil and then a combo of beaten eggs, salt & pepper, after which it is baked. It is sometimes translated as ‘pudding’ or ‘casserole.’ One of my favorite and more difficult kugels is
On the set of the second season of The House Between, some of my cast and crew members unexpectedly scooped up prop guns and began enthusiastically indulging in the art of "Gun-Kata," the mathematical discipline of (gun) battle practiced by the ascetic Grammaton Clerics in the 2002 Orwellian epic, Equilibrium. I had absolutely no idea what my friends were doing, and worried that some of them had gone inexplicably bonkers. Then Tony Mercer -- glock in hand -- explained to me about Equilibrium (a
Louisiana Downs analysis - Saturday, October 4, 2008 Louisiana Downs analysis – Saturday, October 4, 2008 by Jarrod Horak (Harrah’s Louisiana Downs Track Handicapper/TV Host) Burke (race 2) was a country mile behind the field throughout, and he rallied boldly in the lane to just miss the place. He easily galloped out past winner Heather’s Fantasy. PVal failed to win his 4,000th race, and he is named to ride six horses on Saturday. John Jacinto and Jose Riquelme both booted home a pair. Do
Final Weekend at Levitt Shell The Memphis Scene October 3rd, 2008 This weekend features the season's final free concerts at the newly renovated Levitt Shell in Overton Park. Sorry, all. I need to make an apology. Yesterday I was all in a panic. Here’s how my brain works: because Nobody was following me on Twitter, I equated that with the world ending. How narcissistic is that??!??! I mean, who am I to think that the entire world’s existence depends on some part of MY life? Do I really expect the. entire. world. to. schedule itself based on what happens to me? In short, yes. Yes I do. BECAUSE LOOK AT THIS! Heh-HA! Now I’m confident the world will at least sta

Armed with empty stomachs and discerning taste buds, we descended upon New York City determined to find a cheesesteak of quality. I’m happy to say, we succeeded. Heading into this, I had a suspicion that the day might be anticlimactic, full of half-rate wannabe restaurants that wouldn’t know a cheesesteak from a Manwich. We were threatened by rain and potential steak overdose, but we persevered. Just shy of 100 miles away from the land of cheesesteaks, we found NYC to harbor some superior of
Star Wars + Rubber Duckies = … Ernie from Sesame Street in space? WRONG. That fun sounding combo creates something a lot more fun. Pond Wars Ducks, rubber duckies that look like characters from our favorite space saga, Star Wars. The ducks sport LEDs (check out the demo on Firebox) that make them change color in the bathtub. Rocking names like Duck Fader, Princess Layer, and Luke Pondwater, these ducks are definitely destined for my bookshelves as collector’s items. It’s only a matter of ti
Chapter Ninety Three - Twenty Five Years October 19, 1987 One score five He couldn’t sleep. It was the night before the Twenty Fifth Anniversary. John was sitting on the main house porch; just thinking. He was in enforced idleness. Not being able to sleep; not being able to turn off the flow of emotion. He sat just thinking. Aunt and Unk had passed a full decade ago. Marie and John had moved all the business stuff to the main house. Their old house was a like a combo home with a dash of fraterni
You know what I love? I love my microfiber dusting cloths. Love them. They pick up dust and they are washable. I've got two of them. And you know what works great for taking off make-up? A washcloth! Or just your soapy hands! I'm quite fond of sponges for general cleaning. And regular old toilet paper has worked just fine for our kids, thankyouverymuch. But, man. It seems like every time I turn around someone's got some new kind of disposable wipe on the market. We've got your household cleani
Misty says… at 12:15, we were the only customers inside...read our review to find out why I was pleasantly surprised when I returned from my maternity leave and there was a deck on the front of the Tricky Fish. If anyone remembers the steps that were on the front, they were a death trap (especially for the oddly clumsy, like me)! The concrete slab steps towered in the front of the building (at least 5 or 6 feet tall) with no railing. Of course, I have a trained eye for such dangerous setting
Urban Freestyle Soccer Urban Freestyle Soccer PC Genre Sport Size: 192 MB Traditional 11-a-side games have always fared badly next to the giants (Pro Evolution and FIFA Football), so it's brave of Acclaim to attempt something different with Urban Freestyle Soccer. Turning its back on venues such as Anfield, the Stadium of Light and Boothferry Park, UFS takes a "street" approach to the beautiful game, with four-on-four action that takes place in car parks, cages and other locations arou
In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that is in some way relevant to their recently published books. Joyce Hinnefeld's debut novel In Hovering Flight impresses with its attention to its characters' physical environment, while examining the interpersonal landscapes of friends and family just as well. Philadelphia Magazine wrote of the book: It all adds up to a story that is deep and believable, largely because Hinnefeld seems to know (and love) that of which
.fullpost{display:inline;}And finally! Here is my recipe for Strawberry Apple Almond Cookies. I made these with the left over apple cookie dough. I have never seen strawberry and apple combo in cookies. The apple almond cookies were really tasty. I had left out with a little amount of dough which would make me around 6 more cookies. But, when I opened the fridge I had some strawberries that needed to be used asap. I don't know why but strawberries in my fridge get spoiled very quickly! So here I
Sophisticated lustre in our autumn/winter wardrobes is essential for the upcoming party season. For me, silky, metallic jacquard is undoubtedly the chicest way to inject your winter wardrobe with some glistening vibrancy with zero risk of looking cheap or over the top. Perfect to dress down with a cashmere jumper, woolly tights and boots or dress up with heals and a delicate evening top, DKNY Lurex jacquard mini skirt in ‘amber combo’ (£220 available at net-a-porter) is perfect for casual a

Final Fantasy Dissidia will be the very first PSP-exclusive Final Fantasy title. On the outside, the game features characters from different Final Fantasy games participating in one-on-one battles. On the inside, it’s a game that feels looks and feels like a Kingdom Hearts portable. Dissidia: Final Fantasy will be a 3D action fighting hybrid although Square Enix describes the game to fall under the unique genre of dramatic progressive action. So what’s the story? Noting that there’s a d
Some of your may already be uncontrollably jumping off the walls others of you may be asking WTF? What’s a “Pinball Tournament and Arcade Game”? Well, it’s awesome. It’s like going to the Natural History Museum and riding the dinosaurs, going to a car show and driving all the cars… you pick an analogy that works for you. To enter you make small donation to the charity TACA - Talk About Curing Autism - and then you get to play as many freakin’ arcade games and pinball machines until your fingers
