Classic Album: Plastic Ono Band John Lennon - DVD Release Date: April 29th
This DVD release is the latest addition to the ‘Classic Albums’ series that documents the making of important pop and rock albums.
This is John Lennon’s first solo album (from the studio) after leaving The Beatles. It was heavily influenced by John and Yoko’s primal scream therapy at the time. This DVD includes interviews of Yoko Ono, Ringo Starr and Klaus Voorman. The album was originally released in late 1970, with Ringo on drums and Klaus on bass.

THE ESSENTIALS #3: John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman There are other choices here and we are mindful of them: 1. Kind of Blue (Miles Davis Sextet, 1959) is the most popular jazz album of all time. It is the only multi-platinum straight-ahead jazz recording. It has, arguably, the greatest superstar line-up in a small band arrangement (Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly on saxophones, Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly on piano, Jimmy Cobb on drums, and Paul Chambers on bass). It has taken its
Rock Revival's Classic Albums: Jeff Beck With The Jan Hammer Group Live 1977Jeff Beck may be best known as one of the three noted guitarists — the others being Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page — to have recorded with the band The Yardbirds. He was ranked the 14th on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He was also, however, a master of jazz fusion, first evident on Blow by Blow (1975), his most successful release, displaying his guitar virtuosity at another level. This album was was produced by none other than George Martin, who became

How Many Christmas Songs Are There? Have you ever wondered just how many Christmas songs there are out there? Around Christmas time, the radios play them, the stores play them over their loud speakers and people are constantly playing their favorite Christmas albums in their homes. But how many Christmas songs are there? There are a whole lot, too many to count probably. But they’ve been passed down over the generations and they haven’t really changed much. However, sometimes a new Christmas song will come out and will get equal

Post #100 - Pump 50 Definitive Classic Rock albums, 100 posts on the George Lite Zone, there's a symmetry there of sorts. The second entry on planet rocks definitive album list is an old favourite of mine, Pump by Aerosmith. There are some albums were every track is a dyed in the wool classic. Some bands make a plethora of them, while for some this musical summit comes along once in a lifetime. For Aerosmith the achiement was reached with Pump where each offering hits the bulls eye and then some. Ripping into
We Got It For CheapI finally bought the second Clipse album last week. It wasn't something I'd been planning on, after all it came just over a year ago and despite excellent reviews, disappeared without a trace. But after a meeting in the West End I found myself wandering into Fopp and there was a pile of Hath Hath No Fury piled high by the entrance. Before I go on, I must just confess to something: the truth is that I am incapable of being in the vicinity of a record shop, without going in and checking what's in
Rock Revival's Classic Albums (1974): 'Where Have I Known You Before" Return to Forever This was the 4th album by Return to Forever, lead by one of the most versatile pianists of the past forty years, Chick Corea. Before Return to Forever Chick was a member of Miles Davis's electric band and as such was one of the first generation of jazz fusion musicians (as was Keith Jarrett). After Return to Forever he went on to record nearly one hundred albums (more even than Frank Zappa): enough fantastic jazz and fusion to keep you going for a life time. Chick Corea would probably be my '

The song was taken from their multi-platinum selling debut album. “More Than a Feeling” and “Long Time” had also been successful on the singles chart, and are still held as rock classics by fans everywhere. The group was lead by technical wizard, Tom Scholz, who later invented the portable guitar device, The Rockman.

Classic Albums: Part 10 - Animals Pink Floyd - Animals (Harvest, reissued by EMI) Released: 1977 In the mid 1970s, the career of one of the bands at the head of the progressive rock genre took a turn that would propel them from a typically directionless bunch of experimenters to the biggest band in the world. A release that contained a sense of purpose and direction never before seen by a band of their background made them suddenly accessable, listenable and at the same time visionary in a way that would cement their status
Capitol/EMI to reissue some classic vinylCapitol/EMI to reissue some classic vinyl Widely covered last week in the news was a story about a Portland, Oregon, music store chain that mistakenly checked "LP" instead of "CD" when ordering the latest popular album. When the box of LPs arrived, they put them out, just to see what would happen, and were surprised to learn that they sold out quickly. Today, according to Rolling Stone magazine, a rep at Capitol/EMI confirms that EMI will be releasing fifteen of their most popular albums on v
