Eddy Arnold, one of America’s most popular country singers, passed away on May 8th.
Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966, he was voted the first Country Music Association’s Entertainer Of The Year the following year, and received the Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award in 1985.
Arnold has sold more than 85 million records and had 147 songs on the charts, including 28 Number One hits on Billboard’s “Country Singles” chart. His biggest hit was probably “Make The World Go Away.”

The Country Music Hall Of Fame: A Hall Of Fame Without Jann Wenner Hanging Around [How Is This Ceremony Not Broadcast Live?] Two of this year's Country Music Hall of Fame honorees (Emmylou Harris and Ernest V. "Pop" Stoneman) were inducted in a ceremony in April. They're certainly worthy of recognition, but let's take a moment to recognize the two inductees that the Hall paid tribute to on Sunday night, Tom T. Hall and the Statler Brothers. Tom T. Hall is probably one of my favorite songwriters of all time, and I would likely say that even if the only song of his I had actually heard was "That's How I Got To Memph

Genuine Music at the Country Music Hall of Fame It’s not often you get a stellar evening of excellent music that is also totally Pro Tools-free. No doctoring of performances was needed at the Country Music Hall of Fame’s Medallion ceremony on June 29, marking the induction of Tom T. Hall and the Statler Brothers into the Hall of Fame. Although both Hall and the Statlers have been retired for years, they unpacked their chops to sing and to show the world that they’ve still got it. Hall performed his true-life ode, “Old Dogs, Children and Wate
Kristy Lee Cook Hooks Up With Arista Nashville; Single Due In August American Idol’s Kristy Lee Cook scored a record deal with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville. Her first single, “15 Minutes of Shame,” will hit radio on August 11 and her full album is due out sometime this fall. Last month, in his article proclaiming country music as American Idol’s uncomfortable bedfellow, Matt predicted that she’d be signed to a major label deal. It’s yet to be seen whether American Idol will ask her back for a performance, thus making him a successful two-fer on predictions. Ed
The Statler Brothers and Tom T. Hall Enshrined In Hall of Fame The first song ever recorded by The Statler Brothers was a tune by the name of “The Ballad of Billy Christian,” written by Tom T. Hall. In that regard, it was only fitting that both were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the Ford Theater on Sunday night. Last week Rick drew our attention to the recently released album from The Wrights titled In the Summertime, an acoustic covers collection of their favorite folk, blues, country and rock songs that they recorded in their basement.

Slow Day Create News Sometimes there seems to be no client news worthy of coverage. That’s when the savvy PR pro digs deep into the old bag of tricks and pulls out one of these ideas to perk things up: * The List * The Index * The Hall of Fame. Best of, worst of, most of, least of, top and bottom lists can be great ways to get coverage. Designer Mr. Blackwell made a career out of his Worst Dressed List. Country Music Television has turned this into an art form by not just developing the list but making a TV sho

Astrological Retrograde Brings Country Transformations Thursday (June 19) is, for astrology buffs, a big day: the end of Mercury retrograde, a period when planetary alignment creates weird ripples in thoughts and emotions and disrupts communication. Do you believe in this stuff? I don’t know if I do or not, but I don’t discount the possibility. One of the things about Mercury retrograde is that while it’s usually associated with negativity, it can also be a transformative period. That makes this an interesting anniversary week, because 40 years a
Nashville Skyline Once we hit Nashville, the weather turned from blistering hot to pleasantly hot. We strolled around town, and Ben and I went into the Country Music Hall of Fame/Museum. You could see the kitchen from where we were eating outside! After dinner, we headed into town to hear some music. We were tired, and only went to one bar for a bit. There was an older man and a younger woman dancing, and laughing, and talking closely the whole time we were there. I thought they made an odd couple, and was

Newcomer, Legend Sing About Dysfunctional Relationships Saturday’s (June 7) show at the CMA Music Festival was very weirdly bookended with artists who were disappointing for different reasons. They were also connected, rather strangely, by the calendar. Jason Michael Carroll was the night’s first act, performing two songs backed by a pair of acoustic guitar players. I am continually poised to not like the kid because of one line –”backwoods boy and a fairytale princess,” from “Livin’ Our Love Song” — that plays into the dysfunctional expectations t
