Happy Birthday Don Henley

One of my favorite drummers-slash-singers is celebrating a birthday. Don Henley is sixty-one years old today (July 22.) I’ve been an Eagles fan since their very first album in 1972. Their harmonies and the varied instrumentation used in the band really captured my ears. That may be the first time I [...]

Dallas International Guitar Show

The 31st Annual Dallas International Guitar Festival and MusicFest was awesome, as usual. We saw some new things this year, like Trillium’s new tube guitar amps. The design and cabinetry caught my eye, and their great tone caught my ears, so I stopped to chat. Scott told me this is Trillium’s [...]

The Eagles take the Long Road Out on tour

The Eagles really have had an amazing career. I’ve been a fan of the band ever since hearing their first album and soaring harmonies of Don Henley and Glenn Frey. Then they merged rock and roll with that cool southern California progressive country sound on their Desperado album, which is one of [...]

The Eagles Desperado

Walking through the store today while my teenagers used all their gift cards they received for Christmas I picked up The Eagles Desperado CD off the budget bin.
What a great album this is. Recorded in 1973 when I was just a kid I must have played Mike’s copy a thousand times (when he wasn’t home, [...]

Look Who Turned 60 In 2007

Who says classic rock is dead?
2007 was a big year for classic rock band reunions, with some really big tours (like Genesis) and special shows (like Spinal Tap appearing at Live Earth and the recent Led Zeppelin benefit concert.)
Musicians, singers & songwriters who turned 60 this year:
Gregg Allman (Allman Brothers Band) Dec. 8

Siblings: {Getting To Know You Tuesday}

So, I’m doing another meme for today’s Getting to Know You Tuesday post. Nenette tagged me for this 6×6 photo meme, you see. The idea is basically just to: 1. Find your 6th photo folder (hard drive or online) 2. Find the 6th photo in that folder. 3. Share the photo on your blog and give the details of the photo. 4. Tag 5 folks to do the same. Well, my photos are stored all over the place and they’re not in the best chronological order. But, I decided to go check out my Flickr photost

Book Reviews: The Secret Mountain

One night-time ritual that we’ve done with our girls pretty much from the very beginning is to read to them. Over the years the way in which we read, what books we read, how long we read for, and even where we read to them has changed, depending on circumstances. But, books are always involved in some fashion or another. For example my older two girls currently can read on their own, and usually prefer to have self-reading time before bed. In fact, they need that time (as I did when I was a ki

Dusty Rose

Alright … so I’ve been on a bit of a skirt binge lately, but I just can’t resist some of the beautiful skirts I am finding, especially this one.  The grid is filled with many many quality skirts, but there’s just something so feminine about this skirt that really attracts me to it. This skirt is a beautiful find from MNK*Shop.  It is a gorgeous tiered skirt with three levels of beautiful floral texture, which flow down from the hips so beautifully.  I absolutely love the narrow, elong

What a blast we had at Demonstrator Stamfest!

I am feeling so rejuvenated right now! We had such a phenomenal time at our first ever Demonstrator Stampfest this past weekend. It was the perfect break from all the craziness in my life recently. There’s nothing quite like being able to interact with your peers, share ideas and learn new things to implement into your business. My head is so full of ideas I don’t even know where to start *lol*! The only thing I would have changed is having my sister Sophia there. Because she lives in Peta

Classic Rock Briefs For November 17, 2008

Soaring With The Eagles In a recent e-mail interview with Don Henley of the Eagles, The Enquirer of Cincinnati asked the veteran country rocker about such matters as his activities during the recent Presidential campaign. Unlike the celebrities that were making news with very public support of their chosen candidates, Henley took a different approach. “I was [...]

The Greatest Singers of All Time - According to Rolling Stone

As George Thorogood (and the Delaware Destroyers) would say, “Who do you love?”  Do you have a favorite singer?  Who do you think should be the all-time greatest singer?  Hint: You must R-E-S-P-E-C-T her. Rolling Stone Magazine put together a list of who they consider the greatest singers of all time, but I’m not too sure about their list.  For example, Bob Dylan is a great songwriter but it is a huge stretch to say he is one of the top ten singers of all time - and ahead of Roy Orbison.  And,

David Dees’ political satire illustrations set to the tune of Don Henley’s “Inside Job”. LYRICS: While you were sleeping They came and took it all away The lanes and the meadows The places where you used to play It was an inside job By the well-connected Your little protest Summarily rejected It was an inside job Like it always is Chalk it up to business as usual While we are dreaming This little island disappears While you are looking the other way Theyll take your right to own your own ideas A

Book Review: *Off the Menu* by Christine Son

Off the Menu by Christine Son Publisher: NAL Trade (August 5, 2008 ) Paperback: 368 pages ISBN-13: 978-0451224170 Back-of-Book-Blurb:  Even though it’s been ten years since their Houston high school days, co-valedictorians and best friends Whitney Lee, Hercules Huang, and Audrey Henley still delight in their once-a-month get-togethers where they talk, laugh, and confide in each other— although not about everything. Because each young woman has a deep, dark secret they think they could never s

Redux

I have had "The Boys of Summer" running on loop in my head all day. No, not the remix techno version from a couple of years ago, but the one with Don Henley crooning. Even on the way home I had to turn down the radio because I kept hearing Don Henley. It was only when I got home I realized what it meant. That first sentence I have been saving for a story is not the first sentence of a story. It is the last line of a poem! A new poem. My little brain is in overdrive.***********************

Easy Rules For Guys

Very busy day today for me but I can’t let it go by without posting something. In keeping with a comment from last time regarding the spanking scene being like dating, here are some very easy tips for guys. I’m not singling guys out but being a guy myself, it’s more P.C. There are some basic rules that men coming into the scene can follow which can only enhance their chances at success. Since I’m talking to guys, I’ll dispense with the fancy talk and get right down to it (you curious women can e

Foodie Trap

I have an attention span to match my stature, especially when it comes to sports.  Having run the London marathon and competed in Women’s Henley as probably the lightest non-cox in history (albeit due to an entries error), I have now enlisted in British Military Fitness.  For those of you stateside, this involves running after a fit instructor in fatigues and doing whatever he commands for an hour. It also includes rolling around in the mud and using partners for resistance.  No wonder BMF i

7 p.m. - Brad Paisley and Keith Urban on stage playing “Start A Band.” Man, this show doesn’t waste any time. Nice and twangy. “Call up some buddies and/start a band:” Yes, it is quite a good way to meet gals. Or guys. I’m feeling their dual soloing thing. Sounds weirdly Bakersfield mixed with ’70s/’80s arena rock. The latter is a gift that just keeps on giving for mainstream country. Just check out a Tim McGraw live show for details. 7:05 - Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley host. Nobody

The catch in the £20 break from European Vacations

We’ve got answers for readers who’ve asked us about junk mail from European Vacations offering a break in Turkey for £20. With no directors in the UK, European Vacations is operated from Twyford, Berks, by Henley Marketing. We asked how holidays could be sold for £20. Ticketmaster Reduces Some Fees for Eagles Tickets

Ticketmaster Reduces Some Fees for Eagles Tickets By Dave Itzkoff Concertgoers who for years have begged Ticketmaster to take it easy on extra charges for ticket sales have been given a small reprieve: the company has announced that for a series of Eagles concerts in January it will reduce “convenience” fees and waive delivery and handling fees for customers who use the print-at-home TicketFast feature to generate their tickets. In October, Ticketmaster acquired Front Line Management, the
