Eddy Arnold, one of America’s most popular country singers, passed away on May 8th.
Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966, he was voted the first Country Music Association’s Entertainer Of The Year the following year, and received the Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award in 1985.
Arnold has sold more than 85 million records and had 147 songs on the charts, including 28 Number One hits on Billboard’s “Country Singles” chart. His biggest hit was probably “Make The World Go Away.”

The Last Of The Breed True originality and greatness are fading quickly in the music world. As each year goes by, we lose more of musics great pioneers. This year we have already lost Bo Diddley, Eddy Arnold, and Buddy Miles and most of the ones left are to old to continue to record new music or even play live shows. Just over a week ago, however, I had an opportunity to see one of music last remaining music legends. The night before Father’s Day, I went to the Fabulous Fox Theatre in St.
The Pirates, Vids, and More Fore YouThe Pirates, Vids, and More Fore You Okay … I know the band on the left (or two-thirds of ‘em. Can’t see the drummer …) is probably foreign to a few Rockiteers here in the states, but they were the foundation of some very influential rock pioneers of the early Sixties. The Pirates (Mick Green -guitar, Johnny Spence - bass and [until his retirement in 2005 due to heart trouble] Frank Farley -drums) backed the late, great Johnny Kidd (given name: Frederick Heath) with superb, hard-drivin’ hits l

Sunday Update - Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, Paul McCartney, moreThe Rolling Stones are expected to be the next major act to join the Live Nation roster. It is expected that they would bring their catalog with them and allow the company to take over all booking and merchandising. Willie Nelson trotted out a bunch of family Saturday at Bonnaroo, including son Luke on lead guitar, son Michael on drums and sister Bobby on piano for her own songs. Paul McCartney played in front of 350,000 in Kiev Saturday night, which was the largest audience to ever seen an act

Would Eddy Arnold Have Wanted It This Way? I am pleased that Eddy Arnold got his posthumous release charted and made history by charting in seven consecutive decades. However, knowing the man, I'm not convinced HE would have wanted it this way (asking stations to play a song in order to make history). Eddy Arnold respected the notion that music and trends changed and prided himself on staying contemporary years after he DEFINED what contemporary meant in Country Music. What a testimony that he
AYBS? Pt II, Rock News and more … One of the funniest men in America has left us a bit saddened. The crazy comic Dick Martin, who, along with his late partner Dan Rowan, had us all in stitches with their Sixties-crazy Laugh-In, passed away this past Saturday of respiratory complications. He was 86. One of the funniest bits I remember about him was in 1971, when he and Dan were talking on-screen. Dan says, “Well, you know what they say: You can lead a horse to water …” at which Dick replied, ” … but you can’t lead a horticultu
Eddy Arnold Sets Chart RecordAs we mentioned last week, the people at RCA were working with radio stations to see if they could get Eddy Arnold on the national charts one last time. The plan was to get his last single, To Life, played by as many radio stations as possible at a specific time and then replayed, if possible. They pulled it off. To Life premiered on the country charts this week at number 49, giving Arnold a charted hit in each of the last seven decades. Arnold's first hit was 1945's Each Minute Seems a Millio
Eddy ArnoldI didn't mean to overlook the passing of Eddy Arnold. It's just that I was on vacation, and then other stuff came up, but that's no excuse, really. Aside from Kitty Wells, I think Eddy was the last of the country music pioneers. Here's a song that Eddy recorded in 1945: CATTLE CALL This is a very sweet performance by Eddy, from 1996. It's kind of an infectious tune, don't you think? I remember, my friend and I never knew the exact words to the song, so we just made up our own. If I remembe
Five Fun Things to Do in Nashville I’ve been in Nashville for just about a year now. I guess that puts me somewhere between assimilated local, and wide eyed visitor. I’m still finding new and interesting things almost every week, but I’ve also had time to key in on a few of my favorite Nashville attractions. With vacation season just around the corner, why not share some of these “can’t miss” spots.
