Gibson Guitars website has a great article posted about the top ten monster songs for Halloween. Author Russell Hall added a nice touch by including a YouTube video for each song. I agree with most of the picks, but a couple of these tunes really spooked me!

It’s time for the Guitar Show! I always find something new to see or hear. A friend went yesterday and said to check out the Stevie Ray Vaughan museum in the back. It’s small but they have some genuine articles there, so it’s worth the trip. [...]
I recently discovered this amazing online gallery of Wurlitzer Jukeboxes. There’s a Slide Show plus other nostalgic views of these mechanical marvels, including a Vintage Video, tour the Wurlitzer factory. My favorite is their listing of All Time Jukebox Hit Singles.
I just love the old Wurlitzer jukeboxes. Their neon [...]
We’ve read several confusing and conflicting reports about Gibson Guitars suing over the patent regarding the Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games. The timing seems suspicious. Is it that these huge corporations waited until they saw the huge profits coming in from the overwhelming popularity of these games?
Finally we came [...]
If you have never seen Derek Trucks play the guitar, you have really been missing something. He is the nephew of Allman Brothers drummer, Butch Trucks.
Derek Trucks with the Allman Brothers Band performing “Dreams” on his Gibson SG. He’s so amazing, the SG should stand for Super Guitarist. Or SSG for Super Slide [...]
There are a lot of great musical things that came out of 1968.
The 1968 Gibson SG is a real beauty. Here’s a video of Eric Clapton playing his psychedelic SG in ‘68, during his Cream days. You can hear the unique tone he used in that group.
1964 Gibson Les Paul SG, first [...]
No that’s not a misprint. We’re flashing back to that classic time, January 1968, to see what was happening 40 years ago in music & pop culture. And baby, it was happening!!
Events in January 1968:
The Beatles launch Apple Corps, Ltd., including their own recording studio, record label and fashion boutique in London. [...]

Gibson Guitar introduces limited edition Dark Fire Firstly, I must apologise because I'm writing this article from the perspective of a keyboard player, not a guitarist, so if you are a guitarist I hope you'll cut me some slack if I foul up on the lingo - and if you can't, correct me in the comments below. OK, so Gibson (makers of extraordinary guitars) has created the Dark Fire guitar, inspired by its previous digital guitar innovations: the Gibson Digital and the Robot guitar. With a nod
Gibson is on the verge of introducing a new guitar called Dark Fire and it seems hugely impressive, even for someone like me who knows virtually nothing about guitars. You can apparently change the tone of the Dark Fire to match your environment. The tune-o-matic piezo bridge is sleeker than ever. The two pickups are capped with carbon fiber-like covers. It’s designed like the timeless Les Paul, but with a nitrocellulose finish. And the headstock features a really pretty flowerpot inlay (that p

The neck of a guitar can come in several overall lengths. The part of the neck we are concerned with is the scale length. What is the point of discussing scale length? The laws of physics (which I know little) suggest that the longer the strings the deeper or lower the note, or fatter as lots of players call it. which is why mandolins and banjos have such a high pitch - with a neck very much shorter than that of guitars or guitar like instruments. The two most popular brands of electric gu

You thought Jimmy Page looked slick with that double-necked Gibson guitar? Rockabilly wunderkind Larry Collins was playing a double-necked Mosrite before Jimmy Page got his first guitar. Collins — who played with his sister Laurencine “Lorrie” Collins as The Collins Kids — went in for speed and flash. The clip above, taken from Ranch Party in the late 1950s, shows the caffeinated kid playing “Flying Fingers” with his teacher and mentor Joe Maphis, who pioneered flat-picking and other Speedy Gonz
Jonathan Richard Guy Greenwood is a BAFTA and Grammy-nominated musician and composer-in-residence for the BBC, best known as a member of English alternative rock group Radiohead. Greenwood is a multi-instrumentalist, but serves mainly as a guitarist and keyboard player. He is the younger brother of fellow Radiohead member Colin Greenwood. In addition to guitar and keyboard instruments he plays viola, xylophone, glockenspiel, ondes Martenot (see below) , banjo, harmonica and drums. He also does w
Guitar Hero has become a cultural phenomenon in the world of computer video games. The guitar, software, and accessories are availabe in Guitar Hero - All Categories including Wii, Playstation, Xbox, etc. is a series of music video games published by RedOctane, in partnership with Activision. The series is notable for its use of a plastic guitar peripheral to simulate the playing of music, represented on-screen by colored notes that correspond to fret buttons on the controller. Hello, some A-tix again, 88 's to be precise a two bands of (hard) rockers that went against the prevailing dance culture of the late eighties. First up, a band that Kaiser Chief fans should like as the latter come rather close soundwise to The Godfathers of 1988, they were rather ignored in the UK at the time, but did have some continental success and in the US, and deservedly so..they produced enigmatic live shows during their extensive touring schedules aswell. Have to say, not having listene
photo by t.klick, courtesy of flickr.com Hooray for Guns N’ Roses and all, but let’s not forget AC/DC. Even if Guns are the comeback story of the year (though we’re not yet sold on Chinese Democracy, and may never be), AC/DC’s tale is just as praiseworthy — maybe even more so. It’s one of consistency, reliability and sheer professionalism, an epic that never seems to end and doesn’t falter in its enjoyability. AC/DC are a microcosm of rock n’ roll as fountain of youth. Angus looks like hell

If you know how to play a Dobro guitar you have at your command a whole range of notes that you cannot get to without a slide. You can slide into notes which, with that unusual Dobro wail, makes your audience’s hair stand on end. When we talk about knowing how to play a Dobro guitar, we are talking about a resonator guitar. The attraction to so-called “Dobro” guitars is the unique tone of the single cone resonator guitar with a wooden body. There are resonator guitars with metal bodies, but th

I'd also stock up on fabulously expensive acoustic guitars and drumkits, for when the generator went down. I'll be one farmstead over - working my way through the tinned soup, re-reading Gormenghast, and listening to the gramophone trying to work out the chords to 'Tales From Topographic Oceans' on George Harrison's old Gibson.
Gibson Les Paul Dark Fire - every imaginable guitar sound From Music Gibson Guitars have pushed the envelope forward again - barely a year after the release of the self-tuning 'Robot Guitar' in 2007
I have been feeling a global shift coming. From the village level sustainability work being done by women in SE Asia, as I described in my last post to the celebration of women who have shaped and SURVIVED the entertainment industry, see below, there is a new voice emerging in the world. And what encourages me more than anything is hearing my 13, nearly 14 year old speak out as her birthright, rather than engage in a life long struggle as I have done. For those of you in the LA area, go , cele
• The Killers, Day & Age –- “Are we human or are we dancer?” is the lamest lyric in a Major Rock Song since, well, Brandon Flowers’ last laughable line, “Can you feel my bones?” What makes it even more irritating is that, like its predecessor, it’s trapped in an ingratiatingly hummable song –- the Killers are nothing if not first-rate tunemeisters who never let their increasingly excessive production stand in the way of a catchy melody. And with the exception of “A Dustland Fairytale,” whi
The wonderful Beverly sent me a link to the below. Basically its a wrapper for many types of guitars including Guitar Hero controllers. Its a cool site too. – Not sure I need it for my guitar tho….:
