November 26, 1968. Cream’s farewell performance at the Royal Albert Hall. It was the end of a brief but intense two year existence of the first super group of rock. The band actually did two performances at Albert Hall that year, but not until 1977 was there an official video release of [...]

70's photographs: Rock stars at their Parents Houses. Zappa, Clapton, Grace Slick, etc at | Noise Addicts music blog audio blog The photos were shot by John Olson of Life at the newly opened Google-Life Archives. The "etc." in the headline are David Crosby, Elton Johh, Donovan and The Jackson Five. The houses seem oddly bare -- not a book or newspaper in sight, although David Crosby's father has a short stack of National Geographics and a New Yorker on a rattan chest. Outtakes and alt-tak

This year, Paul and I had a quiet Thanksgiving dinner for two. Does that mean that we simplified our traditional holiday feast? Of course not! Well, perhaps a little. We had only one type of cranberry sauce (down from a high of three a few years ago), and one type of dressing, down from two (or, to be regionally correct, only dressing and no stuffing). No rolls, either, because Thanksgiving dinner has enough carby goodness without rolls, doncha think? Other than those omissions, we had the us
First off, thank you for the kind words regarding my previous post. A four-day weekend and a partner who has been taking awesome care of me is helping immensely. Cookies have helped too! I participated in my first protest today (!), and I definitely see myself attending more in the near future. As a shy, quiet, and likes-to-hide-in-the-shadows kind of person, this protest dug deep within and had me shouting phrases like “Forty dead animals, one fur coat” while marching proudly in the front of th
Rat City Cupcake by Bake & Destroy Hey buddy, how’s it going? So I’m all moved in and adjusting to a kitchen about 1/4th the size I’m used to. The fireplace, jacuzzi and lack of drafty windows, however, more than make up for it. Of course my camera took a huge dump at the end of October and I’ve been too busy moving and working to do anything about it - therefore, I have very few new pictures to share and honestly, very few new recipes. I don’t think I’ve hidden the fact that I hate the holidays

Andrew Madigan In order to write you have to experience, you have to travel, you have to move outside the structure of your life. Well, perhaps you don't have to, but through experiences and challenging situations the writer can easily find things to draw upon. A story and situation that I always find compelling is the American that finds himself in a new land and is forced to learn a new culture. The first story I had read by Brooklyn's Andrew Madigan was called "Buying Beer in Cairo", and it

Pastries can be grandly architectural in their form—think napoleons, croquembouche, and Paris-Brest—but they can also be charmingly simple, even rustic, in shape and scale. Case in point: the galette – a flat, usually round—but sometimes square or rectangular—free-form pastry made from a simple dough that holds an equally simple filling. This cousin of pie is a feel-good dessert. It’s satisfying to construct and easy to serve. If you’re a beginning baker who needs a confidence-boosting recip
As you all know, I have dazzlingly healthy eating habits; so when Joy The Baker posted a few weeks ago about making carrot cake pancakes my reaction was nought but glee at the idea of getting those extra vegetables in for breakfast.Hee hoo hoo hoo. I just like the fact it has 'cake' in the name. CAKE FOR BREAKFAST, MOTHER. I TOLD YOU IT WAS THE FUTURE. However, after the triumph of my carrot cake a few weeks back, the novelty of beta-carotene is wearing off a little. Also I just like to be excess
I made this on a whim late last night and it was still cooling when I went to bed. Since the recipe was completely improvised, I had no idea if it was successful until I woke up this morning. So when I rolled out of bed (way too early), the first thing I did was cut into the cake! While I wouldn’t suggest eating cake for breakfast on a regular basis, this Pumpkin Spice Cake turned out to be the perfect day-before-Thanksgiving breakfast for my husband and I. It was moist, spicy, and delicious
On November 26, 1968, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker took the stage for the final time as Cream at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Politician 05. Stepping Out 06. Sitting On Top Of The World 07. Toad 08. I’m So Glad 1. Sunshine of Your Love 2. White Room 3. Crossroads 4. Politic
As I was making my recipe for Bread Baking Day #14, I was reminded of a story from a few summers ago, when our family hosted a boy named Tyrod through the Fresh Air Fund.My younger son was so excited to show Tyrod, who was from Harlem, everything he might not have experienced in the big city. My son made lists of things to show Tyrod and places to take him. One of the first things my son proudly showed Tyrod was our small, overgrown garden, and the pickles we had made from the cucumbers that had
Where are homes selling in Tallahassee? This is a question many of our homeowners are asking us as they consider putting their homes on the market. With buyer activity in the market slowing down to a 20+ year record low, many people feel as if their Tallahassee subdivision is the only one where homes are slow to sell. But that is not the case. Here is a simple report showing the number of homes sold by Tallahassee subdivision over the pat twelve months (November 1, 2007 through October 31, 200
I Found a Box of These Babies On my porch. They are straight up backyard apples from a friend's house. I called to ask about what kind of apples they were and was told "They came from Dad's old tree out by the gate." Faced with that, it's time for a real application of the cook's art. First, I ate one. There was firm texture, lots of crisp, a sudden tart bite which was followed by a delightful apple flavor. It was wonderful, I took another bite and said "Pie." When making a pie out of apples
