But in a recent Golf Digest study of the Top 100 golfers in music, The Gatlin Brothers dominated [...]
-- Earworms of the Week Is it just me, or has this week seemed like an especially long one? What with winter drawing in, a series of big announcements at work, a disappointing gig and a resurfacing of the WT's (or at least my awareness of them), all in all, it's been a bit rubbish. Still, the weekend is here, the smoked pancetta is melting into the vegetables in the oven, the thick, liquoricey Chilean Syrah is open and I've even managed to have a productive day working at home. Imagine that. S

The Best and Most Loathsome Television News Personalities A Seriously Random List II / Dustin Rowles Hey! That random top ten list was so much fun yesterday, let's do it again. Sure beats writing about the possible sequel to Unbreakable that Shyamalan is contemplating, having already run out of stale ideas. How about this one: Top Ten Television news personalities 10. Back in May, This American Life aired a widely-acclaimed show on the mortgage crisis. In The Giant Pool of Money, Alex Blumberg and Adam Davidson pepper their analysis with dialogue from a cast of characters including: Richard Campbell, ex-Marine, behind on his mortgage: “At one point, my son had $7,000 in a CD and I had to break it. That really hurt.” Clarence Nathan, who got a $540K second mortgage while working 3 part time not very steady jobs: “I wouldn’t have loaned me the money.
Bruce Johnston is the perennial "Sixth Beach Boy," so to speak, even though he's been in the Beach Boys since 1965, when he replaced Glen Campbell (!) as the stand-in for Brian Wilson. Heckfire, he's allegedly the guy who played Pet Sounds for the Beatles, and he sang on "California Girls," so he's a Beach Boy in my book. My favorite solo work of Johnston's is his version of the Chantays' surf-rock hit "Pipeline," which was recently unearthed by a thrifting friend of mine. It's pretty much r

Get out the magic crystal ball. We’re about to embark on a long journey. Thirty teams get a fresh start where they can dare to dream of winning Lord Stanley. Lady C and I were happy to take up Ms B's kind invitation to this week's Later...with Jools Holland on Tuesday. I threw over another really exciting invitation, but the Man-About-Town understood the necessity of seeing Glen Campbell at close quarters, even though I'm going to see him at the Festival Hall in a couple of weeks. My luck in getting a seat and being served beers continued, because a wife of one of the performers gave up her table - Gwyneth somebody, I think - which was nice, and we e

But still, Jack Nitzsche, Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye, Glen Campbell and Sonny Bono all in the same poky little room.... (Glen Campbell's not in that shot, I don't think, but what was Mark Ellen doing huddled on his own there at the back?)
Saw him live twice in the last couple of years, he was great and, by the way, Glen Campbell was always cool. Check out the shirt in the clip if further proof is needed.
