Seems like the mega marketing monster just gets bigger every year around Grammy time. Now it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about Grammy Award winners or nominees. They’re all eaten up by the marketing machine and spit out into a shiny new package.
I just saw this one on Amazon.com. They have a [...]
It's always interesting to see which artists make the shortlists for the Grammy Awards, given that they are nominated by their peers and are assumedly equally qualified. The nominees for the 2009 awards have just been announced by The Recording Academy, and while not as diverse a range as we might like to see, there's a good amount of nods to artists that we are happy to see included. Here's a rundown of some of the more interesting categories:
A big congratulations to Adele, who netted nominations for Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance She made her U.S. radio debut on MBE in March and returned a few weeks ago for an encore performance – watch it HERE if you missed it. Coldplay, who also made their U.S. performance debut on KCRW, garnered 7 nominations. Check out this intimate acoustic set they did on MBE. M.I.A. got a “Record of the Year” nomination for “Paper Planes.” See her live performan

Viewers of the Tony Awards this summer probably wondered why Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to ad-lib his acceptance speeches for "In the Heights." But that's where Lin-Man feels at home. Freestyling his lyrical rhymes. And he gets to go home again with his friends and colleagues in Freestyle Love Supreme, who host a sold-out celebration of hip-hop harmonies and humor every month at Comix - this coming Monday's shows (7 and 9:30 p.m., Dec. 8) will raise funds for the New Orleans VideoVoices Projec
BRITISH talent has dominated the nominations for record of the year at the US Grammy Awards. Coldplay, who earned a total of seven nominations, will compete with fellow Britons Adele, Leona Lewis, Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and MIA for the major honour at the awards show next year. The British rock band, Radiohead, and Plant will also face each other in the album of the year category while Welsh singer Duffy, who shot to number one with her catchy single, Mercy, and fellow British sou
As audacious and unnecessary as it seems to have a prime time special for an awards show that is merely about the nominees and not the awards show itself, the nominees for the 51st annual Grammy awards were unveiled last night. A complete list of all nominees can be found here, here. In the four major categories album, record, song of the year and best new artist the big winners look to be British rockers Coldplay, who earned a spot in each accept best new artist. Viva la Vida or D
For the 51st annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy went with a live, primetime announcement/mini-concert. But you want to know who got nominated, don't you? While putting American Idol's star judge Simon Cowell up for Record of the Year (he produced "Bleeding Love" for Leona Lewis along with Clive Davis and Ryan "Alias" Tedder) certainly contains some comedic value because you wonder if he'll show up in a tight black V-neck or a tight black tuxedo, we do have some other actual comedy hono
Never mind that Coldplay’s new album is the Brit-pop band’s weakest effort yet. Or that rapper Lil Wayne is a better salesman than musician. Or that the Jonas Brothers pen power-pop like third-graders fill in Mad Libs. They are all smart, swaggering and popular, style-over-substance qualities that helped them Wednesday when nominations were announced for the 51st annual Grammy Awards. Lil Wayne led the pack with eight nominations. His 2008 album, "Tha Carter III," sold more than a million copi
Give them this: It wasn’t the same-old same-old at the nationally broadcast Grammy nominations Wednesday. New faces and fresh voices dominated, led by the bullfrog rasp of New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne, who piled up eight nominations, including album of the year. He was followed by Coldplay with seven nominations, and six each for R&B singer Ne-Yo, and rappers Jay-Z and Kayne West. Radiohead nailed five nominations, even though they initially released their 3-million-selling 2007 al

man. I cannot believe how much the Grammies stink. How can anyone take these nominees seriously as a group?here is the lista few thoughts:it is sad to think Coldplay is good enough for that many nominations for a average, slightly better than mediocre album.at least Radiohead is up for album of year. When Coldplay beats them it will be a travesty to think of the mediocre little brother beating the superior big brother because he makes pablum that is acceptable to the masses while the older broth
The 2009 movie awards season is about to begin! You may have smelled rain last week, when nominees were announced for the Satellite Awards. Of course, you’re more likely thinking, “Satellite Awards? Since when did NASA get a vote?” but it’s easy to miss the first harbinger of a storm. Maybe this morning you heard the far-off rumble of thunder, when the the Spirit Awards dropped their nominees. (Roommate Joe certainly heard it.) But tomorrow? Tomorrow, the rain starts to fall. Tomorrow the

The Grammys are on tonight (Dec.3) — oh, wait. Scratch that. The Grammy nominations are on tonight. You have to wait until February to see who wins, but tonight you can find out who’s in the running (and watch Taylor Swift co-host and perform). The Recording Academy says that by announcing nominations at night, they can really bring the ultimate amount of attention to the beginning of Grammy season. Or, they can just drag it out to try to pull in more prime-time advertising revenue. Either way,
They’re going all out at the Grammy Awards this year. Rather than just holding a basic press conference to announce this year’s nominees, they’re holding an all-out concert to do it, calling it the Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! - Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night. Why is this important to us? Because Christina Aguilera will be performing at the Grammy nominations concert, that’s why! She’s going to join other performers such as Mariah Carey, John Mayer, Foo Fighters, and more. The speci
From today’s b, the paper The 2009 Grammy Awards are set for Feb. 8 and the nominations will be announced at 9 p.m. tonight. But before some musicians take a victory lap and even more have their hopes dashed, we made our predictions for the best of 2008. The field for best new artist is one of the most confusing. Grammy rules say an artist need not be “new,” only that the release has “established the public identity” of the artist. Last year Taylor Swift was the only artist who was actual
