Who says classic rock is dead?
2007 was a big year for classic rock band reunions, with some really big tours (like Genesis) and special shows (like Spinal Tap appearing at Live Earth and the recent Led Zeppelin benefit concert.)

As you already know, it is almost impossible these days to be around me and the subject not turn to the book. I'm sorry. I am grateful for all of you who put up with me. I'm not good at waiting; but I am also confident. That probably is the most accurate description of where I am these days. I have a sense (totally subjective, which means I could be dead wrong) that more than one publisher will express interest to publish it. I did see Jen on Tuesday and we actually went the entire lunch
My last posts drew what is, for this blog, a high number of comments (like, 9 total yaar), some of which were intriguing and offered more resources, and two of which were astonishingly dim. One commentator noted, "I find it amusing that people think India cannot contain a fragmented Pakistan as they don't see history. Pakistani WAS divided once before - 1971 - and India had no resulting spike in violence or whatever." First off, Pakistan's split, after its military practiced ethnic cleans
I can't believe how exhausted I am at the end of each day. Part of it is from acclimating to life in cubicleland with it's beige partitions and horrible fluorescents and hideously bad air (I actually had someone say to me yesterday: oh yeah, new employees always talk about how sick they feel after being here for a couple of hours). Another part is the sheer fact of leaving the house at 7:30am and not returning until 5:30pm. But mostly it's the intense stress of dealing with slam-bam, full out,
I get so tired of Liberals and closeted Liberals coming here and badmouthing the blog while acting like they have some kind of moral high ground. Either that or they try to take swipes at Christianity or the intelligence of Christians or Conservatives. You liberals are so much smarter, better informed and open minded. Except not really. What is it with you all? Lets get some things straight. 1. Believing in creation requires faith. Believing in evolution requires faith. We’re even. Except
Editor’s Note: The following article by Eric Francis was originally published at the end of 2004, during the presidential election between John Kerry and George Bush. It’s now part of the Planet Waves archives, available to subscribers of Planet Waves Astrology News. I was struck by the parallels in this article between today and four years ago: Eric mentions a moment between two paradigms; then he was talking about Capricorn and Aquarius, but it could easily be the Saturn-Uranus conjuncti
WASHINGTON (Dec. 2) - Odetta, the deep-voiced folk singer whose ballads and songs became for many a soundtrack to the American civil rights movement, has died at age 77, the New York Times reported Wednesday. The Times cited Odetta’s manager, Doug Yeager, as saying she died of a heart attack. It did not give a time or place of death. Recently Departed Music Stars Mitch Mitchell, Nov. 12: The rock durmmer, left, and last surviving member of the legendary Jimi Hendrix Experience, was

I always wanted a camera that could take decent photos from a car, and now I finally have one! (The last photo was taken at the Georgia/SC Welcome center, near Lake Hartwell.)Before this, my only good photo of a freeway exit was taken when I was literally standing on the interstate, hitch-hiking on I-80 in Pennsylvania. PS: You should not attempt that at home!~*~----------------Listening to: Grateful Dead - I Know You Ridervia FoxyTunes
Last week I dealt with my post-play post-partum by going to see somebody else’s work: In the Boom Boom Room, David Rabe’s 1970s risk-taking opus about the wide-eyed, determined young go-go dancer Chrissy. In this roll Victoria owns the Studio 16 stage, and if you missed it, they’re holding over December 3, 4 and 5. Victoria graduated with a BA from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, then studied at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England with Sir Ben Kingsley and Alan Rickman.

Seriously, really? I think all Americans should have the right to vote and be encouraged to vote but I’m really worried about Florida. Maybe we should post election monitors throughout Florida, or maybe teach some civics classes that include the design of the ballot? I truly don’t know but when the teenage son of the local Klan leader is seated and has David Duke coming to “support” him people in this county need to do something. WEST PALM BEACH — — Derek Black says “of course” he will attend
[See Part I of this interview, "Every Instrument Has a Spirit," here.] Trevor: As we at RockOm have been exploring the bond between music and spirituality and deeper meanings, percussion keeps coming up. Do you think there's some sort of essence about drumming or rhythm that's different? Zakir: I guess rhythm is part of us from the time we're in our mother's womb. The heart is pumping, there is a pulse, so we respond to that. If you notice, most of the songs that are a hit are songs that you
There are some things in life that are so built up, worked toward, and anticipated that have no where to go but the Disappointment File when they actually happen. This was not one of them. My ordination last Sunday was amazing. Here are some of the things that I loved about it: I loved that there were 37 clergy there to support and lay on hands. I love that among those clergy were Ecumenical Catholics, United Methodists, United Church of Christers, and Presbyterians. Then a whole sl
We’ve recently celebrated Thanksgiving in the U.S., a time when many people stop and think about what they’re thankful for. Now that the holiday is past us, should we return to taking everything for granted? No! Gratitude isn’t meant to be something you pull out once a year, use a little bit, and then stuff into a closet until next Thanksgiving. It should always be on our minds. Most people spend so much time thinking about what they want, that they forget about everything they already have.
Apologies in advance for another dull post about my varying spinal health. But, I figure friends, family and some people in my various online communites are interested in contextual stuff like this, so here we go. Hit up some other bookmark now if you’re bored Since my epiphany 6 weeks ago I’ve been on what I realise is going to be a long road to recovery, and generally each week I’ve been improving, barring the odd minor blip. That was, until the middle of last week when I seemed to go back
BBC Ouch! - After the psychosis has gone "At the tender age of twenty three, I've been a famous author, a comedian that sold out London West End shows, a Bible-bashing disciple of Jesus, an obscenely bendy gymnast, a professor of English, the cousin of erstwhile Manic Street Preacher guitarist Richey Edwards and best friends with diminutive, mole-like comedian and writer Tony Robinson. I've been stalked, poisoned, financially ruined and have sat in front of a mirror peeling chunks of dead sk
100 Things :: #41) I have 10 tattoos. Or, well, I was tattooed 10 times resulting in 8 total tattoos, if we want to be really specific. However, you wouldn’t know it by looking at me in my every day dress. They all hide very well, which was the result strategic planning when I got them. I also got them in my younger and much less frugal days. Good tattooes are expensive and honestly if you’re going to get something permanently inked on your body you want it to be good. So please if you a
From October: Fort Dix jihad video depicts gory decapitations and jihadi celebrations Fort Dix Jihad Update. “Jurors in Fort Dix terror trial view tape from seized computers,” by John P. Martin for the Star-Ledger, October 23 (thanks to Jeffrey Imm): Jurors at the Fort Dix terror trial today watched videos of beheadings and al Qaeda propaganda seized from one defendant’s computer, footage investigators contend proves the young Muslim men were studying terror tactics and preparing to attack.
this morning, i was catching up on my favoritist podcast of the bob and sheri show and they took a bunch of calls from listeners about the things they were grateful for. my first thought was that maybe i wasn’t in the mood for something like that. i listened anyway and ended up with a really nice feeling. i’m always glad when i do something that isn’t my first choice and it turns out good like that. so many of the callers had really neat stories, and the things they were grateful for ranged fr
