Gregg Allman just turned sixty years old on December 8th. But he’s “not about to let them catch up with the midnight rider.”
The Allman Brothers Band is one of my favorites from way back to 1970. From their first album Beginnings, I was a big fan. Songs like “Dreams” & “In [...]

GREGG ALLMAN BAND Boston 1974 [no label, 2CD] Live at the Boston Music Hall, Boston, MA, April 8, 1974. Very good soundboard. What if guitarist Duane Allman had not died in a motorcycle accident in 1971? That question must have crossed any fan’s mind when listening to the Allman’s At Fillmore East. That show/album made Duane a star, if he wasn’t one already, and th

Listed for $1.3 million with Allie Beth Allman’s Forrest Gregg. Really nice crib. Jones tells the DMN he moved “down there” (Uptown) last year and vascillates between selling or not selling his bachelor pad. Which we can understand, but DCAD sees things a little differently. Maybe that’s because they just don’t know that the $1,425,000 listing next door is loaded with — get this — bamboo flooring, a floating staircase and an Aga stove!
James Taylor's released another sad and tired CD (one of the 'five for $5 at' at iTunes! this past week) and the talent appears to recede further than what was once his hairline. However, the scope of the CD is cover songs and we thought we'd pick ten of the best covers you may not be familiar with or may have forgotten. 1) "If You Could Read My Mind," Barbra Streisand. This Gordon Lightfoot song appears on Streisand's Richard Perry produced Stoney End. Rebecca recently turned Marcia on to
St. Peter and the rest of the bouncers behind the eternal velvet rope must have November 22 marked on their calendars. A quick perusal of the list of famous figures who passed away on this date is…varied? random? A helluva cocktail party? (But, no drugs please, one of the guests is…sensitive.) First of all, today is the 45th anniversary of JFK’s assassination in Dallas, TX. I’d suspect he’d be holding court, by the bar, perhaps sharing a cigar with Edward (Blackbeard) Teach (1718). JFK might
The Allman Brothers Band received the prestigious Legend Of Live award at the 2008 Billboard Touring Awards, held November 20 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.Allman Brothers Band leader Gregg Allman saluted his late brother Duane, who died in 1971. "It happens to be today would have been his 62nd birthday and I'm sure he's looking down and this and is really proud of us," he said. "We'll keep coming back until we can't come back no more.""We've been able for 40 years now to go out and have fu
After this year’s postponement, then cancellation of the Beacon run, any news regarding the 40th anniversary of The Allman Brothers is welcome. Matt Simpson of wnew.com staff reported this morning: This week Billboard magazine will hold their annual Touring Conference at New York’s Roosevelt Hotel. Part industry conference, part awards show, the two day confab starts tomorrow and will culminate Thursday with the presentation of the Legend of Live award to Gregg Allman and his Allman Brothe
As George Thorogood (and the Delaware Destroyers) would say, “Who do you love?” Do you have a favorite singer? Who do you think should be the all-time greatest singer? Hint: You must R-E-S-P-E-C-T her. Rolling Stone Magazine put together a list of who they consider the greatest singers of all time, but I’m not too sure about their list. For example, Bob Dylan is a great songwriter but it is a huge stretch to say he is one of the top ten singers of all time - and ahead of Roy Orbison. And,

The song was originally recorded with David Crosby, before being scrapped, and then re-recorded and released on his second album Songs from a Room. The country
Oh dear I have just read the following report and it seems that the starter marriage has rapidly imploded into a starter divorce - easy come easy go for this gal - I just wonder if she will stay in NYC and pursue her startling literary career. Although she does insist that the marriage is not over - its just going through a little intercontinental turbulence…. Any how this little list of insanely speedy starter divorces is good for a little light hearted fun ONE DAY: For nine-times bride Zs
Fred Armisen wants me to cheat. He said so. Really. I mean, it can’t be wrong if a nice guy like Fred Armisen said so, right?I speak, of course, of Fred Armisen’s directions for finding clips of Saturday Night Live that don’t end up on Hulu. In his newest behind-the-scenes blog entry, he offers this: “I've heard that the reason some videos don't get posted is because of music clearing issues. It's apparently a big deal getting the rights to some songs for reruns and online content. My suggestion
We’re a week into November Beard Month, and I was looking for some music to help coax these whiskers out into the open air. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a decent beard related playlist out there anywhere. So, what do you do when you can’t find something pre-made? You roll up your sleeves and you make it yourself. Most of the songs lean toward the heavier side of the scale, but if you’re growing a 70’s, peace-loving beard to nest tiny woodland creatures in, I threw a few tracks for you, too.

VOTE November 2, 2008 – 3:50 am This weekend Americans must decide who they want to be the next President. Voting day is November 4. Let’s join the fun. Vote which version of this Jimmy Webb song you like best. VARIOUS Do What You Gotta Do Which version of Jimmy Webb’s 1968 song Do What You Gotta Do do you like best? We’ll vote for Malaysian band The Strollers’ single version issued in the ’70s. The Strollers are long gone from the music scene but their only album, Waiting Is…, remains a h
Being a guitar player above most else, my music collection tends to reflect this (to what some would say is an extreme). After many years of playing, I discovered that every song did not, in fact, have to feature primarily guitars and solos. It’s not like I haven’t been a fan of Joe Cocker since the first time I heard him. I seem to remember my mother having an album (round black vinyl discs that played music) of Joe’s and playing it a lot. My mom is mid-sixties now, possibly out of Mr. Coc
Gregg Allman will play a solo show at the new Wellmont Theater on January 8, with tickets on sale this Saturday at 10am ET. It's been a long 2008 for Gregg and but he seems to be back in top...

For those of you looking for an alternative to the hipster Hanukkah shows from veteran indie-rockers Yo La Tengo, look no further than across the river where Matisyahu will host his Festival Of Lights - splitting the shows between Webster Hall and the Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Now in its third year, the event has been expanded to run the course of the eight night holiday and will feature a diverse group of support acts including The LeeVees, U-Melt, Assembly Of Dust and Brett Dennen.
