Do you remember John Lennon’s “lost weekend?” Most fans don’t. That so called “lost weekend” lasted 18 months, from 1973 to 1975, when Lennon split from Yoko in New York and headed to L.A.
Ono hooked John up with a former personal assistant by the name of May Pang, who has just released a [...]

Ray, backing vocalist Kelly Hogan, multi-instrumentalist Jon Rauhouse

Everyone’s favorite Canadian power pop band The New Pornographers and its handsome “eight” have been busy with nothing but work, work, work, hoping to make 2009 jam packed with some wicked and spiffy new material. It all started with some new solo efforts from a few of the bandmates, but now with the announcement of a new album on the way, next year is already starting to glisten. As we mentioned before, singer Neko Case has been working on her very own set of country-pop tunes for her next so
This day in 1968 saw the release of OTTO PRMINGER’S groovy comedy SKIDOO. Marketed as a hip, psychedelic romp, this total mess starred JACKIE GLEASON, MICKEY ROONEY, CAROL CHANNING, FRANKIE AVALON, GROUCHO MARX and featured music (and sung end credits) by HARRY NILSSON. A long time resident of our ‘BAD MOVIES WE LOVE’ shelf, SKIDOO is a movie that has to be seen to be believed.
We've just re-upped some of our Harry videos. Most are .avi files and you can now easily download them, too (you're on your own regarding how .avi plays on your system). We're working on others. Sounds like Harry singing, doesn't it? It's not! This 30 second TV spot, which first aired March 7, 2005 (during American Idol), introduced a re-tooled version of Nilsson's "Coconut" to hawk Coke's latest lime & cola concoction. Hear the 1 minute radio commercial for Diet Coke w/lime below. Download it HERE. We'll refrain from noting the corporate irony of having Harry pushing coke. Shit, we just did. Damn, we just said shit. Coca-Cola Uses Island Inspiration By Theresa Howard, USA TODAY To let
We can't tell you much about this, but here's what we've cobbled together from a few Dutch web pages and 15 recent YouTube audience cams of Nilsson: The Musical. According to actor Jim de Groot's website, The Working Theater in Amsterdam staged Nilsson: The Musical in 1998, which documents the last few seconds in Harry Nilsson's life. John Lennon (de Groot) materializes to take Harry (Bill van Dijk) back to 1974, with most scenes staged in Harry's living room at home and in a bar. The songs and
How cool is this? Footage of a young and mod Harry strolling around with a mini-skirted babe in Stockholm, 1969 (to "Everybody's Talkin'"). Recorded from Swedish television, the credits title this as "Nilsson March On" and date either the filming or the broadcast, January 29, 1969.
As we flew home yesterday after celebrating Thanksgiving down south, I was reading the most recent issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In case you haven’t yet seen it, their cover story is the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. I’m not gonna list my top 100, or even the people I would delete from their list, because that would require way too much work…and I’m allergic to that. Suffice it to say approximately half the people on their list would also be on my list. However, if I ever did undertake
Beatles die-hards that read every last scrap about the Fab Four know about author Geoffrey Giuliano. And, he's not held in the highest regard. He has a habit of getting his facts wrong and has made a career of splicing together found chunks of information to create over a dozen books (and $1 CDs) about The Beatles. The so-called Lost Lennon Interviews is just one example. While we're happy it features GG's interview with Harry Nilsson, chances are those who were paying for Lennon's words weren't

NOTE: Don't panic. The screen is blank for the first 9 seconds.Otto Preminger's utterly odd 1968 film, Skidoo. A host of Hollywood stars, including Jackie Gleason, Groucho Marx, Carol Channing and dozens more convene to mock the 60s counter culture, prison, hippies, The Mob and LSD. It's strange beyond belief. Nilsson performs three tunes (and writes a few melodies) while George Tipton arranges & scores. Watch for Harry making his film debut as a tower guard on acid during the final 20 minutes.
Nelson Sings Nilsson: boringloser: Harry Nilsson was a great American songwriter who died in 1994, the year I first started playing music. Best known as a singer of hits written by others (Fred Neil’s “Everybody’s Talkin’,” Badfinger’s “Without You”), or a writer of songs made popular by others (“One” by Three Dog Night and Aimee Mann, “Daddy’s Song” and “Cuddly Toy” by The Monkees), Nilsson was a woefully underappreciated recording artist in his own right, who made almost 20 solo records in a
Harry Nilsson - Without You Protip: you should try drinking a bottle of Jameson, then drunkenly driving to a girl’s apartment and cry-singing / screaming this song outside her window. That’s the way Nilsson intended it.
I think Harry Nilsson is a shoo-in for the “least attractive yet still totally badass rock star of all time” award. Who else makes the list?
And wouldn’t YOU flip out if the grown-up you met your parents 35 years ago, back when they were about your current age? That’s what happened to Our Hero, Det. Sam Tyler, on the most recent episode of “Life on Mars,” ABC’s top-flight (though ratings-challenged) sci-fi cop show. The installment opened with a scene set in Coney Island—the real Coney Island. (Can you imagine how cheesy and phony it would have looked had the show tried to recreate the famous amusement park and beach on some Hollyw
