Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell dead at 61

Or 62, depending on which source you believe. In any case, Mitch Mitchell was found dead early this morning in a hotel room in Portland, Ore., apparently of natural causes. Which means that the entire Jimi Hendrix Experience is now dead. (There they are in August ‘67, at Heathrow Airport in London. Mitchell is on the right of Jimi, bassist Noel Redding is on the left.) It also means both of Hendrix’s key drummers are now gone, as Band of Gypsys sticksman Buddy Miles passed away in February.
