I finally got all the way through this double DVD set from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. This massive one day concert took place in Chicago last July, which is the second get together of these guitar legends. This follows slowhand’s first guitar festival, which stretched over a three day weekend [...]

Six foot three and close to 300 pounds in his salad days, the Wolf was the primal force of the music spun out to its ultimate conclusion. A Robert Johnson may have possessed more lyrical insight, a Muddy Waters more dignity, and a B.B. King certainly more technical expertise, but no one could match him for the singular abil

Or 62, depending on which source you believe. In any case, Mitch Mitchell was found dead early this morning in a hotel room in Portland, Ore., apparently of natural causes. Which means that the entire Jimi Hendrix Experience is now dead. (There they are in August ‘67, at Heathrow Airport in London. Mitchell is on the right of Jimi, bassist Noel Redding is on the left.) It also means both of Hendrix’s key drummers are now gone, as Band of Gypsys sticksman Buddy Miles passed away in February.
Numerous guitar legends gathered together in June of 2004 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, to play a benefit show for Eric Clapton's Crossroads Center, a nonprofit addiction treatment facility in Antigua. Offering a stunning array of legendary acts, the talent assembled for the show was a music lover's dream come true, and this document of the event allows those who weren't there to experience the magic. Including performances by BB King, James Taylor, Carlos Santana, Joe Walsh, Jimmie Vaugh

Fortunately, when I picked up this long out-of-print LP at a used record store while in high school in 1984, my genuine fondness for this album wasn’t skewed by the long-forgotten reviews that met its release. I also had the benefit of being

Jeff Beacher hosts the Insanity Ball at Tao inside The Venetian to ensure you can squeeze another night out of whatever didn’t get destroyed in your drunken bumbling the night before. Experience Hendrix Paramount Theatre Thursday, October 30, 2008 Jimi Hendrix once said, “Music is my religion,” and the Paramount Theater essentially became the Church of Hendrix for three hours while some extraordinary guitarists paid tribute to who many consider the ultimate guitar god. Eric Gales delivered an uplifting opening sermon with “Purple Haze” and “Foxey Lady” backed by Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox and drummer Christ Layton, who was part of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Double Tro

TONY ENGLEHART: BLUES AND MEAT >>> A barbecue in October? Why not? The South Sound Blues Association is holding a Summer Ending Party at Jambalaya featuring the Brown and Blues Band. One of the only true Chicago styled blues bands in the Northwest, the Brown and Blues band have a deep understanding of how blues was meant to be played. With driving shuffles and heartfelt slow blues, the Tacoma-based quartet doesn’t subscribe to Robert Cray’s contemporary styled “blues,” but rather have
