I am such a sucker for lists of ‘books you should have read’. Mostly because I can fairly smugly score around 50% or more at least. I also like that you can carry them around and ask people ‘have you read this one, or this one…’ and create yourself a little list of ‘books I should read soon’. I pulled this list off Emma’s blog, and have filled it in (i.e. bolded it) for your interest, or not. It’s really for me - to remind myself that it’s about time again that I read a book that I haven’t rea

Subscribe to this Chargers blog Go to the front page In a recent interview with Nick Canepa of the San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Chargers GM AJ Smith expressed his extreme disappointment and embarrassment over the way the Chargers have performed this season. Smith puts the blame squarely on his own shoulders, and identifies a set of five questions he'll ask himself as the 2008 comes to an end. I'll do my best to address his questions as best as I can, and I ask all of you to contribute t
As stated in my first-ever Omni post, my reading tends to skew towards nonfiction. I have attempted to remedy this flaw in my omnivoraciousness - my #1 resolution for 2008 was "read more fiction" - but a glance at my Best of the Month picks reveals a very-much-alive bias. I’ve read some phenomenal fiction this year (The Northern Clemency, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Netherland, and Downtown Owl to name a few), but old habits clearly die hard. So in the interest of well-rounded read
Sean Avery is once again the center of attention in the National Hockey League and judging by his impromptu press conference this afternoon before Dallas took on Calgary, that was his plan from the start.Whether or not you like or dislike Sean Avery here isn't the issue. The question is if his "sloppy seconds" comment warranted a yet-to-be decided suspension which in turn took away any heat from the Calgary-Dallas tilt tonight as Tapeleg points out.You can say that the product should be able to
We're still putting our DMN team together. How do y'all think the Big 12 did? The following team, announced today, was determined by the coaches, who cannot vote for their own players. OU QB Sam Bradford is the offensive player of the year, Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo the defensive player of the year and OU's Bob Stoops and Texas Tech's Mike Leach shared the coach of the year honor. Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant is the special teams player of the year, and Baylor quarterback Robert Grif
Right about now, New York City's real estate boom time is arriving to an end, thanks to the global market's implosion, and an impending recession that threatens to cripple the US economy for years to come. The news isn't all bad though-the upside to the sky-high costs that have defined recent years has been the construction of a number of avant-garde statement buildings that have raised the city's architectural profile. while better corresponding to its self-image as a hotbed of ahead-of-its-
By Zach Harper Perhaps you're relatively new to the website and you're wondering why there is a special "Thanksgiving Weekend Edition" of some article called, "NBA Happenings." Perhaps you're about to start looking for previous editions of this so-called NBA Happenings article because you think that you've been missing out on a regular thing. Look no further. This is something that was started last season and only updated once or twice. Is it a regular thing? Not really. Should it be? Po

The deadline for each team's arbitration decisions is 11pm CST tonight. In this post I am gathering up all the rumors about those decisions. I'll add updates throughout the day. Check out MLBTR reader predictions here and here. The San Francisco Chronicle says Frank Thomas will not be offered arbitration, perhaps because he'd like to come back. Alan Embree might be. MLB.com's Mychael Urban talked to Embree, and the reliever doesn't expect to be offered arb. Joel Sherman says the Yankees ar

Let’s welcome author Carrie Lofty to KKB! Carrie has agreed to let me grill her a bit before her historical romance officially hits the stands tomorrow, so let’s get right down to it! Your debut full length novel, What a Scoundrel Wants, is released tomorrow, December 2nd by Kensington, with Scoundrel’s Kiss slated for release in late 2009. These are both historical romances set in rather unusual time periods—in the Middle Ages, one in England and the other in Spain. Your previously publish
Today was a beautiful Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent. Everything in Kansas City is dusted with snow, yet the temperature is not too cold. Perfect. We didn't think we would be at our church today but it worked out for us to go to the 11:00 AM service. The Sanctuary was beautifully decorated with large light brown scrims. Lights illuminated the figures of trees behind the screen with leaves attached moving with the air currents. The Altar devoid of the Eucharist Elements because of Adve
"Caught in the flurry of what?," Mike wonders, aghast at my bad grammar, as I told him what I've been up to. Well, here's the answer, Michael.I watched the ff. movies, which I hope to review here: The Kite Runner (Ian: thanks bro), The Passenger, To Kill a Mockingbird, Intrigue in Istanbul. I'm trying to get hold of The Animal starring Rob Schneider (Nen said it's a must-see) and White Chicks (Malou said it's another must-see). I've also been reading -- again. I've just finished Dave Barry's Big
by Peter Knegt (November 30, 2008) Baz Luhrmann's "Australia" led the 13th Annual Satellite Award nominations, which were announced today by the International Press Academy. However, "Australia"'s nine nominations were mainly in the artistic and technical categories. It failed to make the cut for the Motion Picture, Drama category, where the nominees were "Frost/Nixon," "Frozen River," "Milk," "The Reader," "Revolutionary Road" and "Slumdog Millionaire." "Milk" and "Slumdog" both tallied six no
