As much local politics as humanly possible. Send your tips, releases, stories, events, etc. to lips@washingtoncitypaper.com. Good morning, all. Everyone’s pumped about the 24-hour nightlife the District will offer come inauguration time. As first alluded to during an appearance on The View last month, the piano legends will soon join forces for a world tour designed to bring fans some fun-loving melodies, while saving a couple extra bucks. “It’s two people for the price of one…our ticket prices are the same as you’d see anyone else, but there’s two of us. TOWER GROVE — The list of players offered arbitration is in, with 24 free agents getting the notice from their former teams and not one St. Louis Cardinal. While the deadline revealed more about who won’t be a Cardinal in 2009 than who will be, the list of players not offered arbitration will expand the Cardinals’ shopping list. So apparently a “scooper” at AICN has gotten wind of a script for Speed 3 floating around Hollywood. In the article on AICN the scooper reports that, “There’s a scriptment floating around that reintroduces Jack Traven. So the studios are hoping to get Keanu back on board.” I have to say that the news is very interesting and hits me with a soft spot. Speed was the first R-rated movie I ever saw in a theater. It was actually a massively entertaining film. I liked the adrenaline pumping action
Movie fans have a special love/hate relationship with sequels. We love it when sequels to our favorite movies go into production - but we are the first to point the finger when the studio gets it wrong. Now it looks like 20th Century Fox wants to pillage even more of their back-catalog and it appears that Speed may have zoomed into pole position on the studio’s list. Yours truly was invited to be one of three "TV experts" joining Estrada in an informal, round table-like discussion of all things cop show; we were sort of like "Ponch's posse." The other two tube watchers today were Tim Steeves, stand up comedian and
We waited and waited and waited for news about the Tigers’ shortstop. And after all that waiting, all we get is who the shortstop won’t be next year? Oy vey. Take heart. There’s more to talk about this week: Schatzeder, who turns 54 today, pitched for the Tigers in 1980 and '81. On this date in 1961, the Tigers made the only Dec. 1-trade in their history by trading righthanders Bob Bruce and Manny Montejo to the Houston Colt .45s for righty “Toothpick” Sam Jones. A black walnut tree shadow on the side of the barn If someone were to ask me what my favorite tree is, I wouldn’t be able to answer. It would be like choosing my favorite child. Every tree species has its own special qualities, and no one is better than another is. Take the 17 tree species that grow in our yard. When we moved here 37 years ago, we had less species. In our front yard, black locusts shaded our front porch. Black walnut trees dominated the side yards and back yard. Several re
