Issue 74 Welcome to the first July 2008 edition of Joe’s Blog of the Week. Rest assured, however sunny it might get outside, I shall remain in my dank hovel and churn out as much thoughts and opinions as possible and then post them on the internet. While people around me get tanned, I remain in my ghostly white shell, typing away here. It’s for the best. This week has been fairly uneventful all told. My parents having gone on holiday means that I have limited means of transport, and the fact that nobo
Memorable Moments and Milestones in Sonics' HistoryAs a Cleveland Browns fan who lost his team in 1995 and had to endure three years in NFL exile followed by nearly a decade of on field ineptitude, I have great empathy for Seattle SuperSonics' fans. Here is a look back at some key moments from each of the 41 seasons of Sonics' basketball: 1967-68: The Sonics posted a 23-59 record in their first season, finishing fifth in the six team Western Division; the San Diego Rockets, also an expansion team, went 15-67. Walt Hazzard--a 6-2 guard who later

Baseball’s Lost Art Pitchers used to finish what they started. In 1904, Jack Chesbro started 55 games for the New York Highlanders. He finished 48 of them, winning 41 games. All are major league records. Last year, Arizona’s Brandon Webb led the National League with 4 complete games; Roy Hallady of the Blue Jays had 7. Cy Young threw 749 complete games in his career; the current major league career leaders are Greg Maddux with 109 and Randy Johnson with 99. In 1968, the so-called “Year of the Pitcher,” Juan M

summer in cornwall, surf, music and weekend surferssummer in cornwall, surf, music and weekend surfers I love watching the weather, especially if it is to do with surf forecasting in my home area cornwall. I have just taken added pictures from the bbc weather forecast pages for 1.00pm tomorrow (saturday 5th 0f july) not that the day has any significance other than it's a weekend in the cornish summer when the SW is already full of tourists and weekend surfers. trouble is the wind will be strong the rain will be plentiful and the air temperatu
TRIGGER: Storm It’s been hot and humid here for a few days now. Cloying….that best describes it. But I can feel a storm in the air and that should ease things down a little and make it slightly more comfortable. My dog won’t be pleased though. She hates storms and is guaranteed to be found constantly within 2 inches of me while it lasts. Like wearing a second shadow. Like me she’s getting old and as she does she’s more prone to being scared by storms, loud bangs, etc. Me? I just get grumpier as I ge
Fare thee well, Jack Johnson, fare thee well by David Chesanow I can’t help sharing information with other collectors – it’s what a collector’s blog is all about after all – so if autographs are your passion, you’ve gotta visit Golden Age Autographs. I’ve talked to and purchased from Golden Age’s owner, Tom Kramer, on several occasions, and he’s the kind of dealer a collector truly enjoys purchasing from. For one thing, he’s got good creds: He’s a member of both the Universal Autograph Collector’s Club (UACC) and the Professional Autog

Be Here Now Hey fellow voxers, So yesterday I went down to Birmingham to see Jack Johnson at the NIA. It was freaking amazing! The best thing about it was that the NIA didn't fill up as much as it could have and therefore made the gig pretty intimate for an arena of that size. Jack is SO nice and friendly, talking to the crowd and taking requests from the audience! I just love it when performers are really friendly and chat with the audience and do song requests, I simply can't stand it when a band jus
Searching for Jack Johnson So I sadly find myself in the unenviable position of trying to find a new place to live (the reasons for which may make good fodder for a lengthy future discussion). So like millions of others, I have turned to that place known as classified heaven…Craigslist. For about two weeks now I take a little bit of time each day to scour the listings, searching for that perfect room, apartment, and roommate. In the process of this endeavor I quickly came to realize something: Apparently everyone in the
Celebrating Jack Johnson on July 4th In my family’s lore, 1910 will be remembered as the year Grandpa Bud was born. My great-grandmother, Big Momma had only know the life of share cropping when her first child, Robert (also called “Bud” and “Spicey”) was born. The sun rose and lowered over fields of cotton, small shadowed figures stooped beneath the horizon, their lives followed the path of the sun–to the fields and back. Big Momma was the only child of Sarah Jane Martin and Simon Robbins, both who died or disappeared in her yo

Ben Harper & Jack Johnson YouTube updateBen Harper & Jack Johnson - High Tide & Low Tide (Great quality) Best bit of the gig.....the almost joke! Loved the Naomi Campbell boooooooo! The rest of the joke is...... after he shags the model, he asks her for another favour! She says what is it? Can i put these pants on you? Can I draw a beard on you too? Also can I call you John? She relucantly gives in and they talk for a bit.....then he says.....John guess who I just shagged? Jack - Times Like These
BEST GIG EVER - Jack Johnson & Ben Harper Yeah it really was the best gig I seen due to my groupie like status for Ben Harper. The man is a legend. The band are awesome. The set-list was heavy on new material from his last two albums, and included an awesome version of Bill Withers classic Use Me! There was a song from every one of Ben Harpers cd releases apart from the collaberaion with The Blind Boys of Alabama. The Setlist: 1 hours and 15 minutes! Excuse Me Mr. In The Colors Waiting For You Morning Yearning Fool For A Lone
Preacher Men I’ve been very fortunate to attend two great events in the past week. Nelson’s B-day was incredible. I feel really fortunate to be alive in his times. Jack and Ben made sense. Made London worthwhile. Made me want to surf very badly. Makes you want to hold your lady. Be happy peeps. There is plenty of good to go around.
