It’s funny how we find new music. I was talking to my brother and he had just been listening to a new young band by the name of “At Cliffs End”.
His daughter knows the drummer, who just happened to drop by the other night. So they were hanging out and talking, checking out [...]
Looking to sell up and head for the coast? Well, this art deco house in Porth, near Newquay, Cornwall could be the perfect retreat. The house was built by the family who owned Porth harbour and commands fantastic views of the harbour (just a short walk from the house) from the bay windows. The current owners have obviously spent some serious money on the property too, with just about everything updated, mixing period features with more modern utilities. For the record, the house offers up a
Viewers of the Tony Awards this summer probably wondered why Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to ad-lib his acceptance speeches for "In the Heights." But that's where Lin-Man feels at home. Freestyling his lyrical rhymes. And he gets to go home again with his friends and colleagues in Freestyle Love Supreme, who host a sold-out celebration of hip-hop harmonies and humor every month at Comix - this coming Monday's shows (7 and 9:30 p.m., Dec. 8) will raise funds for the New Orleans VideoVoices Projec

As many of you know, I have joined the Board of Jackson Recovery Centers. Today is one of the best parts of being on this Board. It's the Festival of Trees fundraiser auction hosted by the Sioux City Jaycees. Jackson Recovery Center is the organization my parents started in the 1970s when there was a need in Iowa to help teens recover from drug and alcohol abuse. At that time it was one of only four centers in the entire country focused on adolescents! Now the Center has grown to help
A SCHOOLBOY has landed a starring role in a new West End musical about Michael Jackson - after hearing about it in thelondonpaper. Kieron Alleyne, 13, who says Jacko is his "idol", was told about our story last month about the new show, Thriller Live!, and attended open auditions to cast its young lead. After queuing for hours at Shaftesbury Avenue's Lyric Theatre, he beat hundreds of hopefuls to land the part of the young Jacko. Now he will make his stage debut at the Lyric in the New Year
So Celine Dion did not tack her new single onto the end of "At Seventeen" and rumors of Prince joining the Time at the Grammy afterparty at Club Nokia did not come true. All in all, Grammy nominations night was a pleasant exercise - a decent show, a good party and a fabulous museum to explore. Story about the nominations is here. I had seen the museum before the artifacts were in place - vast majority of the displays were up and running - and it is a considerably different experience than wh
From the O.C.Register's Kevin Ding. PHILADELPHIA — There’s no doubt that Phil Jackson believes the Lakers’ West Coast location impairs their road performance. Kobe Bryant noted that Jackson brought this up to him in conversation years ago. The question is whether Jackson truly believes there’s no chance the Lakers can win at least 70 games this season or he’s just throwing out the negative comment as a goal to motivate his team. Jackson will throw out those sorts of things even before, say,
With your contributions, I'm building another roster of newspaper-by-newspaper layoffs and job cuts, as publishers notify individual employees losing their jobs in the 10% layoff now underway.(Updated at 12:30 a.m. ET.) We've now accounted for 57 of the 86 papers in this round. Total layoffs and other job cuts: 1,770.We created a similar list in August, when Gannett eliminated 1,000 jobs through layoffs, attrition and buyouts. We also built a list of the approximately 100 newspaper managers laid
And loved it! It's a New Day That image of Jesse Jackson with the tears running down his face gets me every time!!! The election is over, the hubub has died down... but we are still living history. And it is goooooood!
Excerpt: Bill Clinton yesterday was forced to deny speculation that he would be appointed to replace his wife in the U.S. Senate. Leading candidates for that seat still include John F. Kennedy's daughter (Caroline), Robert Kennedy's son (RFK, Jr.), and Mario Cuomo's son (Andrew). In Illinois, a leading contender to replace Barack Obama in the Senate is Jesse Jackson's son (Jesse, Jr.). In Delaware, it was widely speculated that Joe Biden would be replaced by his son, Beau, and after Beau too
You guys, I love having a girl. Not just for the clothes. Molly is SO much more responsive than Jack ever was. I feel "bonded" to her in a way I didn't with Jack until he was a big boy and could actually do stuff. I put quotes around bonded because who knows what that means. But she coos and smiles and talks and follows you and IT IS SO FUN. I had to work so hard for Jack smiles, but Molly's easy. Is it a girl thing? I have no idea. Tomorrow morning I should have something up at Parenting
From ESPN.COM Kobe Bryant tormented his hometown team again, scoring 32 points to help the Los Angeles Lakers rebound from a last-second loss with a 114-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.Lakers coach Phil Jackson said before the game that the thrill of playing in his home city has worn off for Bryant. But the reigning MVP appeared to enjoy every big 3-pointer that pushed back the Sixers and gave Los Angeles a boost. The Lakers improved to 15-2 one night after they lost
Love reading the comments after bloggers post a question, but love it more when they go back a few days later and give us all a summary. Andrew Jones does just that this week: Top 5 Ways for Ministries to Get Over the Recession Thanks everyone for last week’s discussion. I have collated the best ideas below on how to get over the recession and added, as I usually do, my own thoughts. - Seek God. Fool me twice... er... can't get fooled again. In a series of hang-up and follow-up calls that appears to have taken up much of the afternoon, [Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL)] first received a call on her cell phone, from a Chicago phone number, and was informed by the caller that Obama wished to speak with her. When a man sounding like Obama got on the line, Ros-Lehtinen cut him off, saying, “I’m sorry, but I think this is a joke from one of the South Florida radio stations known fo
My childhood Christmas memories consist of baking candy cane cookies with my mom, trying to find hidden Christmas presents, and these three album covers: When I listen to these albums (well, CD’s now), I still remember sprinkling the crushed candy cane and sugar mixture over the candy cane cookies when they were fresh from the oven. My Christmas music collection has grown over the years to include nearly 200 artists singing everything from Silent Night to I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.

CAAF released its opinion in Miller today, reversing the Air Force Court's decision. United States v. Miller, __ M.J. ___, No. 08-0307/AF (C.A.A.F. Dec. 3, 2008).
