Classic Album: Plastic Ono Band John Lennon - DVD Release Date: April 29th
This DVD release is the latest addition to the ‘Classic Albums’ series that documents the making of important pop and rock albums.
This is John Lennon’s first solo album (from the studio) after leaving The Beatles. It was heavily influenced by John and Yoko’s primal scream therapy at the time. This DVD includes interviews of Yoko Ono, Ringo Starr and Klaus Voorman. The album was originally released in late 1970, with Ringo on drums and Klaus on bass.

$59,750.00 was the winning bid for this very famous set of autographs from all four of The Beatles, during their visit with Elvis on August 27th, 1965.
The auction was held on April 5th at Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas. I was talking to my friend at FansOnTheRun about what a big deal it is for Beatle fans, so we decided to verify the story.
It took some searching, but we finally found a link that confirms the story that this indeed was a valid auction sale. It was lot #30321 in Heritage entertainment memorabilia auction #688 described as Beatles’ Autographs on Elvis’ Personal Stationery - August 27, 1965.
As the story goes…The Beatles were scheduled to play the Balboa Stadium in San Diego and Elvis was filming Paradise, Hawaiian Style in Hollywood. On the night of August 27, 1965, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr arrived at Elvis’s house in Bel Air, where Elvis personally greeted them at the door for what became known as the “summit meeting” of pop music and rock and roll.
During that meeting Jerry Schilling, a member of Elvis’s “Memphis Mafia,” got the autographs of all four Beatles on a 5″ …

CNN just rebroadcast a Larry King interview with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr this past weekend. Originally broadcast last June, the interview also features Olivia Harrison, Yoko Ono Lennon, and Guy Laliberte, the founder of Cirque du Soleil. They celebrated the first year anniversary of the LOVE show, a high tech blend of modern circus theatre set to an exciting mashup of Beatles music remixed by Sir George Martin and his son Giles.
CNN filmed the tribute show from the Beatles Revolution Lounge at the Mirage in Las Vegas. There’s great dialog between Paul and Ringo, and an interesting story from Olivia talking about how George and Guy came to be friends and fans of each other’s work, and combined their talents to create the LOVE show, the first of it’s kind to celebrate the art and music of the Beatles.
The show’s soundtrack features the Beatles music remixed by Sir George Martin and his son Giles, from the original Abbey Road studio master tapes. LOVE The soundtrack album has both the stereo CD and the 5.1 surround sound DVD, which does sound awesome. The album won a Grammy this year for the surround sound mix.

Neil Aspinall has passed away in New York at age 66. He was receiving treatment for lung cancer. He was such a huge part of The Beatles success, it’s hard to overestimate how much he will be missed. Not only was he heavily involved in their business, but he was a close schoolmate with Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
He has been described as the “Fifth Beatle,” and here’s why…
Neil Aspinall was The Beatles first road manager in 1961, driving the group between gigs around Liverpool in his van. Later after Mal Evans started managing the band’s equipment, Neil went on to personal management, and also published about The Beatles recording sessions for their fan magazine. He also subbed as a studio musician and performed on “Yellow Submarine,” “Within You Without You,” “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite” and “Magical Mystery Tour.”
Aspinall also managed Apple Corps from 1970 until last year, and oversaw many high profile lawsuits like the one between Apple Computers and EMI. He was fiercely loyal to The Beatles and fought to protect their copyrights, music and projects. He also had his own film company, and produced the …

Do you remember John Lennon’s “lost weekend?” Most fans don’t. That so called “lost weekend” lasted 18 months, from 1973 to 1975, when Lennon split from Yoko in New York and headed to L.A.
Ono hooked John up with a former personal assistant by the name of May Pang, who has just released a book of personal photos from that lost weekend era. This is actually her second book, which is really just a collection of photos.
It’s interesting to note that Cynthia and Julian Lennon have endorsed the book, called Instamatic Karma. I personally love the name; it’s a great play on words. And of course, the book has created a big buzz. But what I really like about this time period of John’s life is that he really got back into his music, and also collaborated with many other artists too.
Not only did he record three hit albums; Mind Games, Rock n’ Roll, and Walls and Bridges, but Lennon also recorded and worked with David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, Mick Jagger, and Ringo Starr. He also performed with Elton John in 1974, in what I believe may be his last concert performance.

I was reading one of the best informed and brutally honest music industry blogs around today, “The Lefsetz Letter” at lefsetz.com/wordpress when I came across Bob’s post about the famous Caribou Ranch Studio in Colorado.
It’s a fascinating story about the many famous hit artists who recorded there; Joe Walsh, John Lennon & Chicago, just to name a few.The Rocky Mountain News has some great articles and video about it here…

I love these lyrics from Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
I wish we could add the part about war is over.

And now you get to meet the WalrusIt's no secret that John Lennon was on the side of peace, love, and togetherness during those mad decades of the 60s and 70s. In 1969, a 14-year-old boy grabs a tape recorder, breaks into Lennon's hotel room, and manages to score a short interview with the icon. The subject: peace, love, and togetherness. Almost 40 years later, that dialogue is used in this animated short called I MET THE

I Met The WalrusThis was highlighted today on YouTube. I love the music of The Beatles, always have, but the men that made the music, well, that's different. It's like saying I love cake, so I must love flour and eggs and milk all as separate things. Thats not always the case. John was a complex man, as I suppose can be said for most great people. His mom was killed early in his life and he was already living with his aunt prior to that. Home life was probably not idyllic. But, he found solace, at least for

“I Met the Walrus”: Another Reason to Love John Lennon I’ve run into something inspiring. “I Met the Walrus” is an amazing video of an interview done by Jerry Levitan, a Beatles’ fan that snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room and persuaded him to do an interview about peace. The video is animated and brings Lennon’s words to life with clever imagery enhancing his word play. John Lennon’s message was simple and still relevant today; Don’t be square and do your part-work for peace. To see the video CLICK HERE. (BTW Happy 4th of July)

Coexist? Many may have seen this bumper sticker - it’s pretty popular here in Colorado… It’s a clever compilation of symbols (some religious, some not), used to spell the word “coexist.” The clear meaning is that these belief systems or philosphies should learn to “just get along.” Doesn’t that sound good? Maybe we should all join hands, close our eyes, and together sing John Lennon’s “Imagine.” But as is typical on this blog, I think this idea deserves a little more thought. First, how can tho

Pete Seeger on the 4th of July: The Truest American HeroMy wife and I saw "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song" last night. Part of PBS's superb American Masters series, "The Power of Song" may well win an Emmy this year, and it would be eminently deserved. One of the best portraits of a singer - someone far more than a singer - I've ever seen. Pete Seeger is 89, and has been a major player for good and peace throughout most of the 20th, and now the 21st, century. He had some number one records with the Weavers in the 1950s, was blacklisted in the McCart
John Lennon John Lennon is considered by many to be the genius behind the Beatles. John Lennon and Paul McCartney are the most successful songwriting team of all time, and John Lennon was no doubt one of the driving forces of the Beatles, considered by many to be the leader of the group. John Lennon had a difficult childhood, and was not raised by his real parents, but by his Aunt Mimi in Liverpool. By the late 50's John Lennon was a teenager, and already had his own band called the Quarrymen. Shortly ther

The funky leather-and-bead choker, the lucky charm which the ‘Beatle’ acquired on a journey to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram in India in the 1960s, is expected to fetch up to Rs2 crore ($500,000) at an upcoming online auction.
