I just read this great post on Jezebel about Brittney Spears new tune “Womanizer” and Beyonce’s new song “If I Were a Boy” which both diss men. I’m bothered by the fact that song is likely to be perceived as pro-female because it paints men in a terrible light. Just like Britney’s “Womanizer”, which has been described as “empowering”, “If I Were A Boy” shows men as callous, unfeeling shysters who will take you for granted, make out with your sister and then steal your dog. Here’s the chorus of
I got this in the mail the other day — some of the great perks of being a music blogger — but the thing is that I got the same record at some EMI event a couple of weeks ago. I guess I really don’t need two, right? I figured I’d give one away here because, well, you guys were so eager during the X&Y Vinyl contest. So if you’re interested in Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head on vinyl, read on! One winner will receive a copy of Coldplay’s beloved A Rush of Blood to the Head (1 LP, p

The Featured Artists Coalition is set to ruffle some feathers amongst music producing and distributing giants. Launching in the UK last weekend, the group plans to act as a platform for artists by communicating with “government, music and technology companies, and collection societies, arguing for fair play and, where necessary, exposing unfair practices.” With all the latest advancements in DIY music production and file-swapping, the power is definitely shifting from the once all-owning

The musicians of the Western World are getting themselves a trade union, that doesn't include The Musician's Union. The big boys are clubbing together to yell "THINGS AIN'T RIGHT, PEOPLE!" How? What? Well, basical principle is that they want more control over the use of their music, and are joining the all-new Featured Artists' Coalition (FAC*) to campaign for artists' rights. One of the FAC's main aims is to ensure the ownership of recordings remains with the artist rather than their label.

The FAC is a new organisation for advocacy of music artists’ rights in the digital distribution space. Among the Artists already onboard are Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead and Billy Bragg. One interesting thing about their “charter” is that they are advocating for artists to retain ultimate rights to their work, which in case you didn’t know, isn’t how it normally works in the major-label system. “…We speak with one voice to help artists strike a new bargain with record companies, digital distri

A group of British recording artists including Radiohead, The Verve and Iron Maiden say the digital music revolution has come up short in terms of the fair treatment of artists, citing an agreement between record labels, ISPs and the British government as an example of artists' viewpoints being ignored. To make sure their priorities are taken into account in the future, over sixty British artists have joined the Featured Artists Coalition. "It is time for artists to have a strong collective vo
