It was forty years ago, July 1968 when The Yardbirds played their final gig at Luton Technical College in Bedfordshire, England. The lineup at that time was Keith Relf as lead singer and on harmonica, Jimmy Page on guitar, (Jeff Beck had already left the group by that time,) Chris Dreja on bass and [...]

Politico says McCain is getting hosed by the press. (Obviously, they haven't been watching Faux News.) John F. Harris and Jim Vandehei write:Reporters obsess about personalities and process, about whose staff are jerks or whether they seem like decent folks, about who has a great stump speech or is funnier in person than they come off in public, about whether Michigan is in play or off the table. This is the flip side of the fact of how much we care about the horse race — we don’t care that mu

...and 'Ultimate!' is the only one to get in my opinion, as Paolo says. There's SO many compilations out there, all drawing from the pre-'Roger The Engineer' years. This has most of that 1966 album as well, plus the best of their work with Jimmy Page. I must say I'm very impressed with the current line-up as well. I saw them with The Zombies a few months ago. They do the legacy proud, even without the three famous guitarists or the deceased Keith Relf.

Inspired by our recent article about Peter Green…we decided to look for the original 1967 article that highlighted the original Guitar Heroes of the Swingin’ London…here it is! Forget Guitar Hero...those guys were the original guitar heroes! A few months ago, we wrote an article about Peter Green, “The Greatest Forgotten Guitar Hero”. Well, as we mentioned, Peter Green was hailed one of the seven original Guitar Heroes in a music paper article back in 1967. So here, we’ll reproduce this ar
I thought I’d share some interesting quotes Sylvester Croom had to say today. Let’s call it Coach Speak . . . • (On Chris Relf) “He’s the most athletic of all of them, but he’s very inconsistent right now. He’s got to get a little more intent and a little more serious about the business at hand. Chris has great, great potential and I told him he’s either going to perform at the level of that ability, or he’s not going to be around here. We will not allow him to play at less than he’s capabl
The Jeff Beck Group - Truth (1968) wma lossless We already posted the remastered and expanded version of this, Beck's debut here jeff-beck-truth-remastered This is a great quality version of the original work. Beck, of course, was one of the three noted guitarists — the others being Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page — to have recorded with the band The Yardbirds. He was ranked the 14th on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. His son, called Beck Beck releas
The Yardbirds are an English rock band, noted for starting the careers of three of rock's most famous guitarists: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. A blues-based band whose sound evolved into experimental pop rock, they had a string of hits including “For Your Love”, “Over, Under, Sideways, Down” and “Heart Full Of Soul”. They were a crucial link between British R&B and psychedelia. The Yardbirds were pioneers in almost every guitar innovation of the '60s: fuzz tone, feedback, distort

Today's trip is a continuation of last week's Time Travel on the subject of the cover article of the latest issue of Rolling Stone, 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time compiled by writers David Fricke, Brian Hiatt, Evan Serpick, and Douglas Wolk. No, we're not going to go for all 100 songs! Some of the songs on the list are just not my style even if I agree that the guitarists are excellent. Eddie Van Halen is a good example of that. Researching and listening to songs for these Time Travel
Over, Under, Sideways, Down … No, it’s not how the Democrats left statesiders after the campaign; it’s actually my fave hit from the blues/rock legends, The Yardbirds. Now, if you remember, the band included, at times, guitar virtuosos Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. Well, the band’s back together again … at least with originals Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty in the mix. But (as you’ll see in their vid shortly), new lead singer John Idan sounds a lot like the late Keith Relf (who, sadly,
