I watched a couple of really inspirational music videos recently. The ones so good, they just have to be shared with friends, so I’m sharing these with you.
The first video stars an amazing individual, who has led an amazing life. The kind I would say is truly blessed. A life so amazing, [...]
CNN Entertainment has a great article about all the rock and roll autobiographies in the bookstores this holiday season. Of course, I’m buying the Eric Clapton book first, but there’s also new titles from these great (and not so great) artists…
Currently Available:
Bob Dylan (from 2004)
Genesis (currently on tour)

We missed our chance to do WestminsterDogShowFreak, so instead we launched OscarFreak, dedicated to the Academy Awards, which trails only the Super Bowl as an ad showcase. On Sunday, we hosted a live chat to critique the Oscar-night ads. See bios of the participants here. Here is the full transcript: 8:00 p.m. ET Barbara Lippert: reege is just slightly better on the red carpet than star jones Bob Moore: WAY CUTER. Rob Schwartz: The "dread" carpet. Bob Moore: sorry for the upper ca
Is there anything that brings out the shallow, the vain, and the insecurities like a high school reunion? My graduating class committee seems to plan get-togethers not only at the decade, but at other points, too. I’ve missed a few because I already had other plans, but I do try to attend them when I can. I rarely - as in “never” - see anyone from my hometown, which sometimes makes it awkward because I can’t remember anybody anymore. I was one of those kids who was just, you know, average. I was
It’s been a long time since we last summoned the ghosts of rock and roll’s past, but today just felt like the perfect time to take a step back and breathe in the musty air of infamy. Why? Well, what better way to celebrate EF Matt’s BIRTHDAY than by uncovering everything rock and debauched that’s gone down on this very day over the course of history? In doing so, it came as no surprise that December 3rd has had its share of perilous precedents and watershed events, a worthy assemblage of mo
Yes. I really do not watch a lot of television so I feel odd telling you about two television opportunties you need to be sure to set yoru televisions to either auto turn the channels or set the DVRs to record. First there is The Librarian as I mentioned last night (I have my DVR programmed to record the first two already) and now I want to tell you about a series that Turner Classic Movies is airing in conjuction with Disney in honor of the holiday season. According to TCM: Turner Classic M

This week I got a nice card from Barron's asking me if I would like to renew my subscription for a year for the low price of $149.00. That works out to about $2.85 an issue. I have to tell you I'm not all that impressed. I like Alan Ableson a lot. Randall Forsyth is good. Michael Santoli? I like him but I'm worried that I only like him because one of our dear (and beautiful) female friends likes him. As far as the other columnists, terrible. I think we've gotten all the mileage we can g
yeah, somehow over the course of the last month i forgot to post part two of keef’s honeymoon tapes. the first post was featured prominently in an article in london’s telegraph a week or so back. yours truly was even name checked, which was pretty cool, and the article states that i was responsible for bringing these recordings to light. i find that last bit of information a wee bit hard to believe. they’ve been floating around the internets for a while now. hear that lawyer types?! anywho, h

Brittle Bones at Rolling Stone Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time / Ms. Mix & Bitch I don't know about you, but when I was growing up, Rolling Stone magazine was my version of the Bible. I'd turn to it religiously to find out about emerging artists, tour dates of my tried and true, and other miscellaneous rock-n-roll, behind-the-scenes, tasty nuggets. I also really dug the pictures. That was back in the late '70s/early '80s, and then I discovered boys. So I abandoned the ma
A New New Testament Translation, Buyer, Beware! By Rev. Andy Simcak (Rev. Simcak writes on behalf of the Texas Confessional Lutherans. His posts can be found on the Regular Columns page of the website.) The HOUSTON CHRONICLE has reported that a new translation of the New Testament has been completed and is now available for $34.99! It is a new way of presenting Scripture that “speaks to modern sensibilities, to modern ways of processing information.” David Capes, a professor at Houston Bap
The French call it “l’esprit d’escalier,” or “staircase ghost.” To the rest of us, it is known simply as the comeback, that divine and tender coincidence of all the universe’s comedic forces at the perfect moment. A truly good comeback can instantly turn tables, elevate the terminally zinged to the status of champion, and reduce the zinger to a stuttering fool. Sadly, many of us will go our entire lives without scoring a decent comeback, doomed to pause awkwardly and mutter some pathetic va
Despite my best efforts to retain a sense of perspective—we even bought a Dell earlier this year because it was $600 cheaper than an iMac, with twice the memory, and to be honest, I can’t stand the fucking assistants at the Apple store—I appear to have crumbled in the face of the latest download for iTunes. The “Genius”: Play a song, click the Genius button, and iTunes creates a playlist of other songs from your library that go great together. Genius playlists help you discover songs in your l

Most cover versions are rubbish, but there are some hatchet jobs that actually make the world a better place. Here's my non-exhaustive list in no particular order:Aerosmith "Come together" (Beatles) and "Walking in the sand" (Morton, orig. performed by Shangri-Las). It's worth mentioning that the Aerosmith/Run DMC version of "Walk this way" is incredibly dull and leaden, compared to the original, and that the Girls Aloud/Sugababes version was absolutely dire.Ron Wood "I can't stand the rain" (or
Yahoo music wrote an article on the biggest egos in the music industry like Kanye West, Bono, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Noel and Liam Gallagher, Madonna, etc. That list is missing plenty of more big egos in the music industry: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rollingstones, Billy Corgan, Prince, Britney Spears, Scott Weiland, Kid Rock, the Jonas Brothers, Clay Aiken, etc. The list goes on. You can also add Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix to the big egos list. Check out the article here:
I’ve written a few open letters to William Clay ford, Sr. I have no idea how effective they have been or even if anyone bothers to show them to him. But being a Detroit Lions fan and respectful of the game, I think using the written word is more effective than any other medium. Not that I don’t enjoy the creative ways Lions fans voice their displeasure while at the game…some of them are downright ingenious. But living in the Great Northwest, I am at somewhat a disadvantage. I’d look pretty stup

Gaaahhh… So full. Of. Food. I’m having a hard time moving my, uhm, what are they called…Fingers, those things. Yeah, so this’ll be short. We’re all recovering from that annual holiday glut we affectionately call Thanksgiving. (What better way to do it than to blow your entire paycheck on super deals?!?) But we have to get back to reality, and that means we have to get back out there and start drinking and going to shows. Thankfully, Iowa City does not disappoint. Friday Kevin Gordon
EVERTON 6 Liverpool 0 is not a scoreline anyone at Anfield would ever like to see. Nor is Man United 2 Liverpool 0. Or Man City 4 Liverpool 0. Or Blackburn 2 Liverpool 0. And - as if those weren't bad enough - how about a couple of 1-0 defeats to Bolton and Wigan? These aren't results from this or any other season. But, in a way, what these scores represent is something much worse - each denotes the number of Academy graduates currently at each north west club who have made at least a singl
