I recently found a new music website called TuneGlue. The site is described as a Relationship Explorer. Hmm, interesting.
A little click and drag action brings up various applets for discography, news, artists websites and most importantly, relationships. That’s the one that really makes this site tick, because relationships shows the [...]
It's no secret that I'm passionately in love with Last.fm. I scrobble my tracks all day long, I obsessively check my friend's playlists and track their listening habits, and I'm actively involved in the Last.fm community, posting events and concert reviews & pics. So it's no surprise that I'm a huge advocate of their post this afternoon that counts down the very best of 2008, not according to album sales or label priorities, but (gasp) actual listening habits of over 21 million active users. This T-shirt I got thanks to my wife, it was sitting at their office for some reasons I should probably not disclose. The thing is that I’ve been a fan of last.fm for a very long time (my account says it has 5800 plays since 2005) and I wear this t-shirt with a lot of pride. I actually had the chance to meet Michael Breidenbruecker one of the founders of Last.fm in 2006 during the Plone code-sprint in Austria. Michael and his team (some of which I also met during that sprint) are now workin
There’s a new version of Songbeat, a simple but powerful desktop application for discovering music online, and I like it. When it was first released earlier this year, the client only enabled you to search for music online using Seeqpod, but the updated version lets you search more engines at once and also lets you easily play, export and download songs. The music industry will be interested to know that the new iteration of Songbeat supports integrated search for Seeqpod, Project Playlist, Sp
Here’s Last FM’s list of the Top 10 albums of 2008. Pretty weak. In the latest episode of the ‘Catch22 Podcast‘ Jamie Rumbelow and I have been discussing the idea of a web identity. What it is, and why it’s important. What is a Web Identity? Your web identity is essentially you, online. It’s everything you do, who you are, and what you get up to on the wonderful and expansive internet. Parts of your online identity can include: Blogs Twitter Flickr Social Networks (Facebook, MySpace, Bebo etc…) And, whilst everyone probably has some form of web identity;
pic: lastfm this weekend i finally got some time to watch the justice film/documentary and i was pleasantly surprised. to be honest, i have to admit that i wasn't too excited about this since news first came about and i already thoroughly enjoyed part of the weekend never dies but.. i found myself chuckling away for an hour. i know a cross the universe doesn't have the informative showing and canny interviews like the soulwax effort (in fact this seems as if loads of clips have been whacked tog
Thanksgiving travel done right. We spent Thanksgiving visiting family in South Central Pennsylvania where I grew up. We normally make the drive from Vermont, around 9 hours. This year we took an AirTran flight from Burlington to BWI. An hour in the air and an hour in a rental to York County, PA. With God as my witness, I will never drive to the folks' house again. Speaking of Turkeys. The Palin turkey pardon video is now legendary, of course. It's incredible to me that the Huffington artic

I wanted to give you guys a November update, even though the month's nearly over. WoopWoop! Ken Nordine “Yellow” From Colors (1965). Ken Nordine (born April 13, 1920) is an American voiceover and recording artist best known for his series of Word Jazz albums. His deep, resonant voice has also been featured in many commercial advertisements and movie trailers. One critic wrote that “you may not know Ken Nordine by name or face, but you’ll almost certainly recognize his voice.” Nordine began performing and recording such albums at the peak of the beat era and was asso
Star Dust - Hoagy Carmichael “Beside a garden wall When stars are bright You are in my arms The nightingale tells his fairy tale of paradise where roses grew Though I dream in vain In my heart it will remain My stardust melody The memory of love’s refrain” (iTunes)(LastFM)
So for this Friday, I have a discovery from a couple of years back. We all know (or at least I know) that I am a fan of Last.fm. Last.fm is a fantastic music community and basically lead to this very blog. I have discovered many of the artists and musicians that I now hold dear to the fact that I joined Last.fm. Whether it be from recommendations from Last.fm itself or from other members, it has led to many great discoveries for myself. In this respect, I am sure many of my discoveries w
YouTube Bringing Click-To-Buy To Europe, Helps Python Grow DVD Sales By Robert Andrews - Fri 28 Nov 2008 03:38 AM PST YouTube will its click-to-buy scheme, which links video pages to entertainment retail sites, to its European sites “within the next few months”. The video site announced the scheme in the US in October, adding iTunes and Amazon.com (NSDQ: AMZN) links to videos from music owners like EMI and Amazon.com links to videos of EA’s Spore video game. Asked which sites would win t
Finding information about a particular subject is easy with the myriad of search engines available. But what about people? Looking for someone? Lost touch with a friend or family member? Not sure if they are on Facebook, LinkedIn, Xing, MySpace or somewhere else? Or perhaps you feel a little more introspective, after all - who are you? What information is available about you? Perhaps you may have concerns about privacy. Soon, many of these questions may well be answered with the UK launch of 1
I stumbled across spotify.com recently and thanks to an invitation from Vikki Chowney from Six Degrees PR I now have access to this free service. In a nutshell, it is an online music service with an easy to use and intuitive desktop client that just works. Enter a song title, genre, or artist and click search. If they have it, it is presented and you click on it and it plays - bingo! They have a free service which is ad funded (discreet ads appear on the sidebar and every few songs a 20 sec
We love Facebook, ok? It’s a wild love affair. However, just like in every relationship, frustration abounds, because many of Facebook’s features either don’t work as intended, are too slow, or simply lack the details to be truly great. Here’s our list of possible Facebook improvements that would make our hearts smile. Facebook Chat Ok, we talked about this a month and a half ago, and nothing has been done. Facebook Chat is a fantastic way to chat with folks with whom you might not be chattin
A couple of years ago, I read an article in Wired magazine covering Beck and his opinions on the future of the music industry. He proposed that his albums Guero and The Information could be models of the future of the music business, a future that takes advantage of all the myriad forms of music consumption and caters to the modern on-demand, get-it-when-you-want-it consumer culture. I saw Beck in the summer of 2006 in support of The Information at the Download Festival. The show was incredibl
