Just thought we would share all the songs we could think of for Valentines Day.
Of course you will have to be a pretty seasoned music listener to recognize a lot of these old Classic Rockers.
“All My Love” - Led Zeppelin
“All You Need Is Love” - The Beatles
“And I Love Her” - The Beatles
“Because” - The [...]
The music and fashion have long provided people with important means of self-expression. A new company called i/denti/tee, conceived and launched by non-traditional-agency-like-object Anomoly, aims to aims to monetize the space where music and fashion meet. I like their model, which sits at the intersection of three key trends -- mass customization, crowdsourcing and eco/social consciousness -- to produce a unique line of music t-shirts that are ready-made for the 'net generation. I know
Seth Bible sang last night at our 1st Wednesday Advent service. Advent is all about waiting for Christ. Go here. Click on December 1st Wednesday and start watching about 41:40 minutes into the service. Awesome. Psalm 26:2-7 - Examine me, God, from head to foot, order your battery of tests. Make sure I'm fit inside and out So I never lose sight of your love, But keep in step with you, never missing a beat. I don't hang out with tricksters, I don't pal around with thugs; I hate that
I was on a phone call recently with Eric Schumacher (funny last name, huh?), pastor of Northbrook Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, IA, where he talked about several steps pastors can take to overcome their own discouragement. I share them with you along with a prayer that this season might be one of joy and encouragement. 1) Meditate on Scripture, particularly on the Gospel, and pray. You will find in the Scriptures multiple examples of people in worse situations than those you are facing, situ
We choose a hymn/song for each of our children. Asher's was The Solid Rock. That hymn brought me so much strength from the truth in it's lyrics! Zoe's Hymn is Come Thou Fount. I've included the words to this somg that I have sung many times in the past two weeks. In fact just days after we heard about this little girl I was photographing a wedding and they sung this in their service and I stood in the back and sung with all my heart and cried streams of tears. It was a special time of honoring
Frankmusik (aka Vince Frank) is making quite the splash and I'm totally in love with his new single "3 Little Words" which is out now. He's the next big name in electronic pop and his debut album is one of the most anticpatied albums of 2009. I'm actually just as excited about it as Imogen's Heap's new album, which says a lot. Make sure you visit Frankmusik's MySpace to sample some of the hot tunes that has the pop blogs a buzzing... Hello Vince - How are you today and where are you ans
[Pinchgut Opera's production of Charpentier's David et Jonathas opened last night. I have review in the pipeline for NZ Opera News and The Opera Critic, so in the meantime, some non-review thoughts. More on the performance itself in a few days.] Sitting face to face with David et Jonathas for two and a half hours, I was struck, more than I had been in preliminary listening, by just how different a proposition a piece like this is to the baroque opera which is (slightly) more frequently offered i
Billy Black Music , Gavin Petrie Editor and Designer (New York: Hamlyn, 1974) came out of the discard bin last week. Confident from my new-found ventriloquism skills and cheered on by Paul's suggestion that I make this a feature I went looking for more discarded treasures. And how could I NOT grab a book with Billy Preston on the front? Sorry I forgot to scan the front before I released it back into the wild. Tighten Up Archie Bell & The Drells Space Rac
For the 51st annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy went with a live, primetime announcement/mini-concert. But you want to know who got nominated, don't you? While putting American Idol's star judge Simon Cowell up for Record of the Year (he produced "Bleeding Love" for Leona Lewis along with Clive Davis and Ryan "Alias" Tedder) certainly contains some comedic value because you wonder if he'll show up in a tight black V-neck or a tight black tuxedo, we do have some other actual comedy hono
13 Things I miss about Jamaica [now that my vacation is OVER]1. The weather...Save for a few light showers here and there the weather in Jamaica was in the upper 80's during my entire stay.Might be a lil' too hot for some but dammit, it was perfect for me.2. The food...Now typically, I don't do much okay okay...more like ANY cooking @ home which usually results in my spending waaaaay too much money on take out. While I was on vacation however, a wide variety of meals and drinks [including alcoh

How was work today? I don't want to talk about it, much less blog about it. The holidays bring out the worse in my bosses. Rather than discuss work, I'd rather continue on the theme of my last post. Without further delay, here's a few more beloved music videos of my misspent youth. We'll start out with the groundbreak video for my favorite song of all time, Once In A Lifetime from the Talking Heads. As I've made clear before on this blog, I love the 80s. The following two videos pretty mu
My childhood Christmas memories consist of baking candy cane cookies with my mom, trying to find hidden Christmas presents, and these three album covers: When I listen to these albums (well, CD’s now), I still remember sprinkling the crushed candy cane and sugar mixture over the candy cane cookies when they were fresh from the oven. My Christmas music collection has grown over the years to include nearly 200 artists singing everything from Silent Night to I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.
I almost didn't post today, because it's been one of those stumbling-bumbling kind of days. But I had wanted to try to post something everyday for December, so I'm pushing through and posting anyway. If it comes across kind of wonky, please keep in mind the kind of day it's been around here. Last night we went to the youngest girlie's first band concert. We've been to nearly all of the elder's band concerts, so we certainly didn't want to miss out on hearing our family's tiniest violin player
If you had to pinpoint the highlight of many of the live shows you’ve seen in the last ten years, you’d likely admit that is was the moment when the band you were watching executed a reference-fuelled cover version of one of their favourite songs. Sure, seeing Ryan Adams do his own stuff is fine but seeing him do his take on The Rolling Stones’ “Brown Sugar” is, well, better. Taking this idea and running with it, Puma are presenting the Archive Uncovered series - parties in Melbourne and Syd

Senior scribe (editor) Alyssa knows just about everything that’s going on in the world. So early today she gave me the head’s up about some rather cool free Christmas music mixes by Jeremy Cowart, a photographer who works with Passion among other things. Every year since 2003, Cowart has provided the world with “Cowart’s Christmas Mix”–a eclectic collection of songs from the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Jimmy Eat World, Starflyer 59, Brandon Heath, Aimee Mann, Over the Rhine, and Billie Holiday.
Spoiler alert! What to expect on tonight's Grammy nominations concert broadcast. Five categories will be announced on air: Album of the year; song of the year; record of the year; pop collaboration with vocals; and rap performance by a duo or a group. The songs selected for the telecast are all in the Grammy Hall of Fame, which ties in with the Grammy Museum that opens to the public on Saturday. Of course, this is live TV and anything might change. Songs and the performers: Mariah Carey get
Well, I humbly thank you for your wonderful show of support. I will be giving the pictures as gifts. I appreciate your kind words and advice. I have to admit to more than a couple of tears streaming down my face while I read all the comments. It's been quite the ride lately. Life. What are you going to do? Deal and go forward, that's what. ~~~ A word or three about Fig. I will be calling the vet tomorrow to get a subQ treatment which will hopefully make him feel better. He is eating
