This DVD is a fascinating look behind the board, inside the studio, and into the heart and soul of the music we all know and love. Again I have to say, if you’re really into collecting music, this is a historical document and a must have for any fan of classic rock, R&B [...]

Earlier this week, deputy editor and Gator alum Jason Killingsworth issued a fatwa of sorts on the legions of Alabama Crimson Tide fans with his blog post, "10 Best Songs to Listen to While the Gators Spank Alabama in the 2008 SEC Championship." Shortly thereafter, our inboxes filled up with messages from Tide supporters around the blogosphere. The best message came from Tony at AlabamaGameday.net who wanted to craft his own 10-song Bama playlist. So, in the interest of fairness, we told him we

It’s been a long time since we last summoned the ghosts of rock and roll’s past, but today just felt like the perfect time to take a step back and breathe in the musty air of infamy. Why? Well, what better way to celebrate EF Matt’s BIRTHDAY than by uncovering everything rock and debauched that’s gone down on this very day over the course of history? In doing so, it came as no surprise that December 3rd has had its share of perilous precedents and watershed events, a worthy assemblage of mo
Activision has come out and revealed the track list for Guitar Hero: Decades. Decades is the 2nd Guitar Hero title to appear on the Nintendo DS. The game which should be out now has 28 tracks all of which are master recordings from the likes of Rock legends like; Bon Jovi, Queen, Smashing Pumpkins, and the Foo Fighters. In the run-up to Wednesday night’s and Thursday morning’s announcements of next year’s Grammy nominations (my money’s on Coldplay to be one of the leading nod-getters), the next batch of recordings to be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame were revealed today. I’m probably alone in this, but I find myself increasingly looking forward to this annual list of the (usually) deserving and the (sometimes) overrated. I often find it more interesting than the typically obvious choices that fill up a
Most cover versions are rubbish, but there are some hatchet jobs that actually make the world a better place. Here's my non-exhaustive list in no particular order:Aerosmith "Come together" (Beatles) and "Walking in the sand" (Morton, orig. performed by Shangri-Las). It's worth mentioning that the Aerosmith/Run DMC version of "Walk this way" is incredibly dull and leaden, compared to the original, and that the Girls Aloud/Sugababes version was absolutely dire.Ron Wood "I can't stand the rain" (or

Gimme back my bullets. -Lynyrd Skynyrd Public Service Announcement: Last thoughts on Plax. Maybe he should take a page out of the Barney Fife handbook. Maybe from now on he should keep his bullet in his shirt pocket. If you watch your TV Land, or your as old as me, you know sheriff Andy Taylor wouldn’t trust Barney the Beast with a loaded gun. You

There exists certain music that as soon as I hear the opening riff I immediately, and involuntarily, reach for the volume control of whatever device I am listening to, and crank it up. This compilation is certainly not comprehensive, just the first tunes that came to mind. Sorry, but I was totally unable to limit this list to thirteen. Those of you that are fans of classic rock will understand why. I did keep it down to 125 though. They are in no particular order. The entire list is availa
I met my husband back in May of 1985 and within a couple of weeks he took me out to meet the friends he grew up with. They called themselves The Eastside Hecklers—this only worried me a little! What a group! They were a bunch of guys and girls who all grew up together in one big neighborhood. Several, but not all of them, were of Italian descent, some of them went to the same grade school or high school or church…They had lots of history, lots of inside jokes and a habit of harassing the musician
Southern Rock Dons Return Jacksonville rock heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd are set for a UK tour next year, it has been announced. The band will play London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow throughout May 2009- and tickets will officially go on-sale this Friday(28th) at 9 am, however can be pre-booked through the Clash site (see below). Following the band's recent inclusion into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame, Skynyrd continue to tour without original singer Ronnie Van Zandt, who was tragically killed
I’ll put it out there: I don’t like cover bands. Call me a cranky cynic (don’t screw up a good thing) or an elitist Emersonain (Imitation is Suicide), I just like my rock on the rocks, no mixer, thankyouverymuch. So imagine my surprise, while tagging along on a friend’s bar-hopping birthday binge through White Plains on Friday eve, to be lured into Lazy Lounge by none other than a well-disguised CB. I tell you fellow cynical elitists—I didn’t know, I swear! Tangled Vine just sounded so damn go
[Today: Ghosts of Thanksgivings past...] Every year without fail when I was a kid, The Sting was on television on Thanksgiving Day. Don’t ask me why - I don’t remember the movie having any kind of holiday theme, or even being particularly evocative of the holiday spirit. But there it was on the tube, every year like clockwork. At some point along the way, it became a fond reminder of the holiday, and if I caught a snippet of it on TV I’d find myself transported to Piedmont St and the Thanksgivi
