Not only musicians are taking advantage of this medium, but the major record labels and independents are also [...]

Video Premiere: Pic Vicious "L.A. Dreamer"

The music from Pic Vicious is best described as alternative electro pop. Their music features an sinister, underground synth grind that is wrapped around the eerie vocals of Pic who is a cross between Sid Vicious, Batman's Joker and Jack White. Quite an interesting combination and worth checking out. Pic Vicious was formed in October 2007 by Pic,  Devcon (Producer), and Letta V (Hype-girl). Originally from Northern California, Pic honed his skills as an MC with his underground hip hop grou

808s and cynical corporate fiat

808s and cynical corporate fiat December 3rd, 2008 These TIs, man I tell you. As soon as you think they’ve run out of ways to ruin hip-hop, they find another one. Or have they? My latest suspicion is that they’ve issued some sort of order that producers are no longer allowed to work with samples. Or maybe they’ve placed a limit on the number of samples used per album, or the total amount of money they’re willing to spend on samples per album. This occurred to me yesterday while I was readin

Survey: What Labels Would You Put on a “Genre” Knob?

The original microKORG genre-selecting knob, sure to baffle and delight with its nonsensical labels. Careful: you may actually transform yourself with the genres. Okay, first, a disclaimer: the fact that the upcoming microKORG XL has a “genre” knob for selecting presets isn’t big news. The original microKORG had genre-selectable presets, too. The beauty of the original, though, was how incoherently these settings were labeled. (Retro, or Hiphop/Vintage, anyone?) Sometimes, the labels that d

The microKORG is one of the great music instrument product hits of recent years. It’s a product that has managed to reach out of the claustrophobic, aging niche of traditional keyboard buyers to a wider audience of rockers and music enthusiasts. It’s not the only keyboard to be “cool” – hello, Moog – but it’s the rare keyboard that’s both cool and cheap, not to mention small. The cheap plastic-y mic and army beige color only added to the appeal, and encouraged people to write on it with meta

I'm about to rant...

Wednesday, December 03, 2008 Labels: Just Jonesin' 0 comments #fullpost{display:inline;}I really don't like Funkmaster Flex... I mean I really really don't like him. Every time I hear his show I want to throw up. Its not just him either... a big reason why I don't listen to commercial radio is because too many people on the airwaves think they are bigger than the music. Him being one. You are NOT bigger than the music Flex!Constantly talks ish about artists and then when their up at the st

Yes, you read that right. A used MP3 website. And no, it doesn't seem to be a joke. (If it is a hoax, it's an weirdly elaborate one.) Bopaboo.com (in addition to providing evidence that

I'm Going Off The Rails

On A Crazy Train...Happy Birthday to Ozzy Osbourne, who is sixty (60) years old today. It's been quite a ride, and I've always been a fan... from Black Sabbath, to "The Ozzman Cometh" and on, and through his host of great guitarists. The funny thing is, with all of our 'musical heroes' turning fifty-something, sixty, seventy and beyond, it only serves as a wake up call to the children that we still subconsciously hang onto. In other words, it reminds me that I am not "that kid" anymore, no matter
