He overcame losing the love of his life and survived a disastrous second marriage. So what continues to torture him? In his most revealing interview yet, Sir Paul McCartney confronts the ghosts of his past. The Beatles' road manager from the summer of 1963 until the Beatles broke up, twenty-six year old Malcom Evans was working as a communications technician for the Post Office in 1962 when he discovered the Beatles playing at the Cavern during his lunch break, and he was hooked. He started spending a lot of time at the Cavern, and became friends with George Harrison, who recommended him as bouncer at the Club. He had been guarding the door at the Cavern for about three months when the pace was get
In October 1969, while the release of "Come and Get It" was pending, the band and Apple Records agreed that a name change was critical. "The Iveys" were still sometimes confused with "The Ivy League", and the name was considered too trite for the current music scene. After much debate, the group changed their name to Badfinger. Other suggestions had included: "The Glass Onion," "The Prix", and "The Cagneys" from John Lennon, and "Home" by Paul McCartney. The name "Badfinger" was suggested by Appl

Folks, so sorry for the lack of updates this last week. Things have been very hectic in the real world and the blog has suffered a bit. It’s been interesting following the stories surrounding the upcoming blockbuster book about our faled Beatle leader, John Lennon. The book is filled with many small stories in the life of John that we have heard glimpses of before (John lusting after his mom was first heard in the Lost Lennon Tapes radio series), and those that we have not heard about previo
Noted rock author Phillip Norman is amazed that Yoko Ono has disapproved of his upcoming 800-page biography "John Lennon: The Life," calling the book "too mean" to Lennon's memory. As with Norman's 1981 book, Shout! The Beatles In Their Generation, Yoko worked closely with Norman, and only after reading the finished manuscript has she disowned the project. Norman, who is among the most revered of rock authors, can't believe that Ono is upset over the book contents, when it was the late Beatle

I have a hard time believing the claims made in Philip Norman’s new book. I mean, it’s not that I don’t believe that John said some of these things, but I just don’t think John took them so seriously. We all know that John said a whole hell of a lot of things that were either off-handed comments, jokes, or simply said to get a rise out of people. The thing about these comments though is that it was rare for John to hide behind statements. John always shared what was on his mind. You could c
Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney are pissed off with the forthcoming book John Lennon: The Life by Philip Norman, which make claim that John Lennon wanted a gay relationship with Macca and he also fantasized about having sex with his own mom. Both Yoko and Paul took part in interviews for the book, but after the claim surfaced, Yoko and Macca reportedly distanced themselves from it and Yoko has withdrawn her endorsement. There is also an audio recorded on September 5 1979, which you can listen t
On this date in 1962, the Beatles began a very important step on their way to dominating the music world, by rehearsing and recording their very first single. They ended up recording and rehearsing the songs, “How Do You Do It?“, “Love Me Do“, and “Please, Please Me“. EMI wanted them to release the song, “How Do You Do It?“, but the boys made a firm - and wise - decision to only use the Lennon-McCartney originals, “Love Me Do“, and “Please, Please Me“. “How Do You Do It?” ended up being release

It must have been really cool to be part of The Beatles machine. Imagine being but a small cog that makes the PR monster of The Fab Four move. It all looked so seamless, but there were many many behind the scenes folks making magic happen. I cannot imagine a 17 year old working in that capacity. It’s really every kid’s dream isn’t it. I try to picture working for the largest group on earth as a teenager and it boggles my mind. This story really puts into perspective how grassroots as a bus

A newly discovered tape of The Beatles laughing and chatting during an early recording session has sold for about $23,000. Cameo Auctioneers said the reel-to-reel tape was recorded in 1964 and had recently been discovered by a man in northern England while he was clearing out his father’s attic. Pause while every reader rushes to their attic to see if they can unearth any quarter million dollar finds…no? Bad luck. The half-hour tape sold to an Internet bidder Tuesday afternoon for 11,900
