By Mike

John Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett have come up with a winner. It’s “Life, Death, Love and Freedom” Mellencamp’s 22nd album, and it’s available tomorrow July 15th. He’s already on the road so check the tour dates below to see if he might be in concert near you soon.
Look for John Mellencamp on TV:
Thursday July 17 on Late Night with David Letterman
Monday July 21 on The CBS Early Show (in a special remote concert broadcast from Chicago)
Mellencamp calls the album a collection of “modern electric folk songs.” “Life, Death, Love & Freedom” was recorded at his studio in Bloomington, Indiana and produced by T Bone Burnett.
It’s another winner for Starbuck’s Hear Music company too. The album will be the first ever release in the ΧΟΔΕ (CODE) format, developed by T Bone Burnett and his team of engineers. This new high-definition audio format claims to add warmth and presence, and will be playable on all DVD players and DVD drives.
The CODE version of “Life, Death, Love and Freedom” is a DVD that will come packaged with a standard CD version of the album, available at all retail outlets, at no additional cost …

Triple DVD Set Captures Genesis Reunion

June 10th, 2008
By Mike

I can’t recall seeing any concert event this big since Woodstock, which was “half a million strong,” remember? Well, 500,000 fans saw Genesis play a free, open-air concert in Rome’s historic Circo Massimo last July. It was at the end of their European tour after playing to one-and-a-half million fans.
The entire two-and-a-half-hour concert is captured on a new 3-DVD set that’s available today. “When In Rome 2007″ contains the hits like “Land Of Confusion” and “Mama,” plus the good ol’ classic Genesis songs like “Los Endos,” “Carpet Crawlers” and “Ripples.” There’s also photo galleries, deleted scenes and a documentary look behind the scenes at life on the road with Genesis, who hasn’t toured in 15 years.

John Hiatt Same Old Man

May 26th, 2008
By Mike

One of my favorite singer songwriters, John Hiatt is releasing a new album. “Same Old Man” will be available May 27th.
Mostly a critical success instead of a commercial one, Hiatt continues to make music that speaks to my heart and soul. He’s one of those special artists you want to collect anything they record because you know it’s going to be great.

Pink Floyd DVD Welcome to the Machine

May 19th, 2008
By Mike

“Welcome to the Machine” Pink Floyd
This Double-Disc DVD from Classic Rock Legends was just released May 13th. Somehow I overlooked it last week, but I have to mention this because Pink Floyd is one of my favorite psychedelic bands from the sixties. They are a true classic rock legend.
According to an amazon.com review, this is an unauthorized biography. However, it’s described as the 40th anniversary special edition of the ultimate critical guide to the work of Pink Floyd, covering the band’s history from the Syd Barrett era to Pulse. Included is a 136 page book featuring an in-depth analysis of the band’s music. DVD running time is 100 minutes.
Note: This DVD isn’t mentioned on the band’s official website or online store, but three other DVD’s are listed. Live At Pompeii, Pulse and The Wall.

Steve Winwood’s Nine Lives

April 29th, 2008
By Mike

Steve Winwood’s Nine Lives CD is finally available today! I’ve only heard a couple of tracks from it, because I bought the single from iTunes already. The “Dirty City” video is below, which features Eric Clapton on a smokin’ guitar solo.So I’m getting this CD today. It doesn’t matter that Winwood hasn’t released anything in years. He still sounds just as fresh and relevant today as yesterday. You know the shows Winwood recently played with Clapton at Madison Square Garden still sounds as good today as they did 30 years ago.

PLUS…Steve Winwood is touring with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Wow, these will be great shows for sure! You just can’t miss with a double bill like this. And Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers always deliver the goods onstage. The band have created so many great tunes over the last thirty years, it’s hard to imagine how they stay so creative.

Two entire songs from the new album are streaming from Winwood’s website at stevewinwood.com. This song “Dirty City” reminds me of a cross between Blind Faith and Traffic.

Day&Nightdriving with Seven Mary Three

February 22nd, 2008
By Mike

Seven Mary Three has just released their sixth album, titled Day&Nightdriving. It’s co-produced by Brian Paulson who has also worked with Wilco, Son Volt and Beck.
The album provides uncompromisingly honest reflections about reconciling a career in a rock group with home life, and balancing personal commitments to bandmates and those of family.
Seven Mary Three are most widely known for their platinum debut album American Standard, featuring the Number One rock radio hit “Cumbersome.” The group has toured with Aerosmith, Matchbox Twenty and Three Doors Down.
It could be said the band is a success just for the fact they’ve survived for six albums, moving from their original independent label home of Mammoth, over to the major label Atlantic Records, and now they’re back with an independent again, Bellum Records.
