We just gotta say “Happy Birthday” to one of our favorite guitarists and band leaders, Carlos Santana. He just turned sixty-one years old on July 20th.
I remember getting blown away by Santana’s performance at Woodstock with the extended jam of “Soul Sacrifice.” The bite of his guitar riffs on “Jingo” off the first [...]
The Animation World's "Annie" Awards are coming up, and the nominations are in for the best in animated entertainment for 2008. The summer delight Kung-Fu Panda pulled in 17 nods, including best feature. Happy to see that Bolt took home nine, and WALL-E, the almost certain "best animated feature" Oscar winner from Pixar, claimed eight. The other best picture nominees? $9.99 and Waltzes with Bashir. The upcoming The Tale of Despereaux and the hits Horton Hears a Who and Madagascar Escape 2 Afr
For the 51st annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy went with a live, primetime announcement/mini-concert. But you want to know who got nominated, don't you? While putting American Idol's star judge Simon Cowell up for Record of the Year (he produced "Bleeding Love" for Leona Lewis along with Clive Davis and Ryan "Alias" Tedder) certainly contains some comedic value because you wonder if he'll show up in a tight black V-neck or a tight black tuxedo, we do have some other actual comedy hono

Peter Facinelli’s MySpace has been updated to include a message to his fans: To the best fans/friends/family ever… Thanks for all the birthday wishes, and for all the support on Twilight. Being in the number 1 film of the weekend was quite a present, and having New Moon green lit, was icing on the cake. I’m glad you enjoyed the movie. Looking forward to the next one. I’m in NY shooting a Showtime series with Edie Falco called NURSE JACKIE. Should come out sometime next year. Will keep you
Peter Nickles redux? Not quite, but Mayor Adrian M. Fenty isn’t going to have an easy time getting his nominee to chair the Public Service Commission through the D.C. Council. In June, Fenty nominated Lori “Missy” Murphy Lee to the post, which leads a regulatory body with broad authority over electric, natural gas and telecommunications companies operating in the District. The Washington Post did a brief item in October, but Lee’s nomination has more or less sailed under the radar until rece
The alternative-energy revolution was chugging ahead at the AlwaysOn Venture Summit on Wednesday, where three green-technology companies hoped to turn the auto, electric and new-fuels industries on their heads. The companies sketched out unique plans to recharge electric cars, find more efficient energy from the sun and make diesel from vegetable oil using an unusul cost-effective process. Half of Nevada can generate all the energy the US needs, says Bob Fishman All claimed they would make

It looked okay in Mozilla Firebird, but I carefully checked it in Internet Explorer 5 again. All of the floats seemed to be shepherding their content perfectly, so I uploaded the final version of my CSS file. That was five years ago. Or, if you want to relive the times, fives years ago. (Yeah, I know, the only difference is that visitors to v1 were more prone to cut themselves on the sharp corners.) I can't decide whether five years is a long time or a fleeting moment. But i do know that
The new owner of the old WFSB Broadcast House on Constitution Plaza envisions turning Hartford's gateway to the east into a 12-story, $40 million "world-class tech center." Abul A. Islam, president and CEO of AI Engineers, Inc., bought the property back in July for $2 million and plans on making it into an office building with a small amount of retail space. "When people come over the Founders Bridge they need something that makes a statement. The great Connecticut Science Center already does t
A few years ago, no one would have predicted a site like www.SaveOurStarbucks.com. Created by entrepreneur Paul Konrardy after the financially troubled coffee chain announced in July that it would be closing 600 American stores, the site gives loyal customers a place to sign petitions urging the corporation to take their beloved shops off the chopping block. It used to be that people signed petitions to keep Starbucks out of their neighborhoods. That’s if they were feeling nice. Others resor
Arsenal legend Bob Wilson was in Canary Wharf last week to promote his new book The Beautiful Game. The Wharf caught up with the former goalkeeper to discuss Ashley Cole's last day at Arsenal, England's goalkeeping woes, and the legacy he created out of tragedy. West Ham???s Rob Green was backed by a fellow member of the goalkeeping union who visited Canary Wharf last week. The guests make our job easy! There are many reasons for the success of our radio program and one of the biggest is the incredible guests to whom we have access. At the end of each year we’re afforded an opportunity for reflection. In thinking back on everything that’s happened during a very eventful year in The Political Cesspool, I thought it’d be neat to go back and take a look at all of the folks we’ve talked to on-air since June. The list, in chronological order (beginning with our pr

The statement by the speaker that the police seized computers and confidential correspondence without a warrant deepens the perception of gangsterism at the heart of government. It also undermines the attempted defence by Peter Mandelson that: "'Officers have an obligation to look and secure evidence to avoid any circumstances where potential evidence could be lost. 'With this in mind, the decision was taken to arrest and search the relevant addresses in accordance with the Police and Criminal
I was chatting by email last night with Stan Foote, director of the Oregon Children's Theater which produced my play "Gossamer" this past fall. Stan said he is currently working on a musical of CLICK CLACK MOO which will open with the farmer shoveling manure (while dancing and singing, I suppose) ; he said they were in the process of designing the manure: " insulation foam, sprayed with glossy brown paint and and a few dabs of green here and there to and add little contrast, they are pooptasti
Could the Tories have fired their big guns too early? In one sense today is a great victory for the opposition parties. Normally this annual set-piece event provides the peg for acres and acres of coverage on what the government is doing with the Tories and the Lib Dems struggling to get a look in. Well with the Green arrest likely to be dominating the headlines tonight that should be a minus point to Brown Central. But don’t underestimate them - particularly now that Peter Mandelson is in f

This week, on Heroes … RECAP DETAILS AHEAD (don’t read if you haven’t watched it yet) … The eclipse ends, and everybody gets their powers back … which I don’t think really came as a surprise to anybody except the characters on the show. The Haitian “wipes” his megalomaniacal brother’s brain, with pretty much no help at all from Nathan or Peter. Mohinder beats Flint to within an inch of his life, then goes all warty again, and gives up on his plans to woo Maya. And Arthur lectures Mohinder
Peter Mandelson today waded into the row over the arrest of MP Damian Green by accusing the Tories of 'colluding' in the leaking of information by a Home Office mole.
