Yellowjackets is one of the most important contemporary jazz quartet of the 80s and 90s. They are known for producing their own style which blend fusion with smooth jazz, groovy funk even some RnB and rock. It’s just interesting to hear them play, crossing all the borders and delivering delicious compositions for almost three decades now. It all started when Jimmy Haslip (bass) joined guitarist Robben Ford’s band in 1977. The band included Russell Ferrante (keyboard, synthesizer) and Ricky L

The most powerful man in South Africa, and one of the most controversial, came to Washington, D.C., this week, and tried to assure his American hosts that he is committed to market-friendly economic policies, to fighting HIV AIDS and to a free press and independent judiciary in South Africa. They needed all the reassurance that Jacob Zuma could must because Zuma, who fought off corruption and rape charges to become the president of the African National Congress, has a history that unnerves man
Couple of YouTubes here that are interesting in that they feature guys we don’t usually think of as sidemen. The first one has two songs, “Keep Playin’ That Rock And Roll” by Edgar Winter and “Takin’ It To The Streets” by Michael McDonald and appears to be one of those those all star package shows sold in Japan. Robben Ford on guitar takes a nifty solo on the first song and stays more in the shadows on the second as Edgar shows his versatile self while Mike sings. As always, take this message

I meant to feature the Soprano Summit album as my first pick hit, but couldn't find a cover shot in my usual place, and didn't have time to scrounge one up, let alone scan my copy. Release date is Sept. 9, so the capitalists are running a bit slow, not to mention scared. So my fallback was to avoid having to choose the better of the two best entries in the Monterey Jazz Festival series -- actually, two batches thus far. The JukeHounds name comes from the rough and rowdy juke joints of the past where great blues was served up along with dancing, drinking, and good times. They’re an up-beat band that makes you want to move, true to the soul of the blues. The JukeHounds showcase the talents of guitarist John Stachela. His ripping slide and soulful licks will bring to mind blues legends of the past and present. The LA Music Scene published, "John Stachela on guitar is something to see; during his solos his seamless

As there are no Etavonni dealers, the only way to play the GT-1 is to travel to their facility- or shell out $6600 to order the guitar direct- OR be a guitar magazin
Ciro Manna - Feel'n'Groove Italian guitarist Ciro Manna's first instrumental disc is entitled Feel'n'Groove, and MJ Brady had this to say about it on the Proggnosis web site, "Ciro Manna does not follow in the tradition of the guitarists of his age group, he's a 25 year old that sounds more like a vintage fusion player twice his age. Where most younger players are following the metal or rock styles of playing, Ciro seems mainly affected by the jazz, funk and blues players that have defined the
You know, I just asked myself this question some time ago, after listening some blues on YouTube, not as a blues guitar player, which I am not, by the way, but as a person who loves to play blues and, depending the mood I am in, to also listen blues.
