Sixty-five year old music legend Isaac Hayes died Sunday. Of course, I remember Isaac Hayes for his baritone vocals and funky rhythms on his classic hit soundtrack for “Shaft.” He really set the theme for generations of funk and soul musicians with that groundbreaking album. ‘Black Moses’ was also released in 1971, [...]
Inspiration has never eluded Las Vegas’ The Killers, and it’s a damn good thing it hasn’t, because their newest record, their third studio album entitled Day & Age, is full of their finest songs to date. “I think about moments when we were coming up with ‘When You Were Young,’ or, in this case, ‘Spaceman,’” Flowers says. “If we’d decided at that moment, ‘Let’s go to the park,’ they might not have happened. It’s scary. It almost makes me not want to stop because I could be missing out on t

The Age of Conversation 2 is what you might call a writing experiment on a grand scale. It’s a project that has brought together 239 authors from 15 nations to write on a voluntary basis about ‘The Age of Conversation’, with the proceeds going to charity. The book was launched on the 29th October and I’ve been itching to get my hands on a copy since it came out. My copy came during the week and though I’ve not read it all (yet) I’ve read enough to be able to give you a flavour of what to exp

It started between Drew McLellan, and Gavin Heaton a couple of strangers who met on the Internet became friends and then became partners in a world wide project for the second year in a row. The book is titled Age of Conversation 2. Why don’t they get it? I was not up to blogging about it when the book was published a couple of weeks ago. My apologies for that! I am humbled to be counted among the 237 authors from 15 countries, fine souls who worked hard to contribute their personal in

Comment & analysis round-up Quote of the day: “If Mike Ashley will sell Newcastle for the right money he will sell it next week. Is he being greedy now? Yes. I spoke to him when the row started and I said ‘Mike, just get your money back and step away. Football’s a very difficult game. If you sack the golden boy Kevin Keegan you are in serious trouble.’ I don’t think he has thought things through or really appreciated just how passionate people are up here. It’s very difficult for someone w
http://www.georgiarhythm.com GaRhythm: Tell me about your association with Willie Nelson. I understand you were a big fan of his. Moman: I loved Willie Nelson when he first came to Nashville. He and I and Roger Miller all signed to Tree Music about the same time. And I was really into a lot of his demos that I was playing on and hearing up there. I really loved Willie Nelson from the first time I ever heard him. GaRhythm: So that’s how you wound up working with Waylon and Willie both

Yes, there are a lot of questions here. Yes, there are a lot of questions still to be answered. Maybe on Sunday afternoon, when you’re sitting in Toronto watching men’s tennis on TSN or NFL football or something entirely other than the Raptor-Miami game, you can re-read this in between checking with the in-game blog that we’ll be doing. Just a thought. Seriously, folks, this might have been the most voluminous mail week in the history of our mail. I swear it beats Jose-TJ, KO’s got to go, He

November 22nd was an important day in the history of The Beatles. Their second album, 'With The Beatles' came out in 1963. It featured many of the songs which resonate in my memory - 'It Won't Be Long', "All My Loving', 'Till There Was You', 'Please Mr Postman', 'Roll Over Beethoven', 'I Wanna Be Your Man', 'Devil in Her Heart', 'Money' and a few others. That was the era when 4BC in Brisbane had 'The Beatles Show' for half an hour every night of the week. Bob & I had our plastic Beatles w

November 14 — Monroe Township, NJ — NMR, a nationwide staging and technology rental company, made history come to life on September 17th, 2008 at the Ryder Cup in Louisville, Kentucky. As the emcee for the Ryder Cup Gala, Mr. Samuel Ryder, who died in 1936, caused quite a stir. Using the Musion Eyeliner hologram from Digital Illusions LLC, Sam was able to walk, talk, and play golf like he did nearly 100 years ago.
