One of my favorite singer songwriters, John Hiatt is releasing a new album. “Same Old Man” will be available May 27th.
Mostly a critical success instead of a commercial one, Hiatt continues to make music that speaks to my heart and soul. He’s one of those special artists you want to collect [...]
THE TWO SHEDS REVIEW by Julian Radbourne E-mail: julian@twoshedsreview.com Website: www.twoshedsreview.com With this year’s Survivor Series just a few days away, I’m going to carry on with the tradition I stared a while back by reviewing a past big four show, by going back in time twenty-one years to the very first Survivor Series, held on Thanksgiving Day in 1987. The legendary team of Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse “The Body” Ventura are behind the microphone for this one. The show begins wit
Last month, I spent some time in San Juan, Puerto Rico. One day, we visited Old San Juan, the oldest settlement within the territory of the United States, with a history that begins in 1508. We also visited the old fort known officially as El Castillo San Felipe del Morro, or simply El Morro. The fort must have sent shivers up the spines of all those who hoped to take it. The walls of El Morro are 18 feet thick and 145 feet high. Built on a headland, the Spanish Empire controlled the flow of g
MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s increasingly brazen pirates are building sprawling stone houses, cruising in luxury cars, marrying beautiful women — even hiring caterers to prepare Western-style food for their hostages. And in an impoverished country where every public institution has crumbled, they have become heroes in the steamy coastal dens they operate from because they are the only real business in town. “The pirates depend on us, and we benefit from them,” said Sahra Sheik Dahir, a shop
Our intrepid crime columnist/blogger Peter Hermann ventured into new territory yesterday: a Baltimore County elementary school's career day. Keep reading for his hilarious (and humbling) account of trying to interest kids in a newspaper. I spent a wonderful afternoon at Battle Grove Elementary School in Dundalk for its career day. I forgot we're in the Internet age, and I brought with me something that I realized many kids have never seen before: a newspaper. Yep, a real live newspaper, one you
There's an old joke about a man who sees a policeman on the sidewalk* in New York and asks him how to get to Carnegie Hall. The policeman replies, "Practice, practice, practice." That seems to be the gist of Malcolm Gladwell's new book excerpted here: Everyone, from all three groups, started playing at roughly the same time - around the age of five. In those first few years, everyone practised roughly the same amount - about two or three hours a week. But around the age of eight real differe
We’re one year old this week! To celebrate, every day this week each of us will re-post one of our favorite articles from this past year, just in case you missed it. Name: Beyt Occupation: Fighter Realm: Lonab Beyt has a nasty habit of killing every man he sees in sight. Raised in the realm of Lonab (which we all know to be populated by only women), he never met a man until he was old enough to wield his trusty duct-tape axe. By the way, you think that being raised by women would have ma
If I could figure out a way to smash random (or some other word) and Thursday together I’d make this a regular weekly posting just like YouTubesdays… Bonus points for someone who thinks of something creative. Anyways, I do want to share a collection of things I’ve been posting over at On The Journey. Maybe this is just another lame attempt to convince you to subscribe. If you do subscribe you can expect a collection like the one below in your inbox daily, or your RSS reader… The Kingdom Jesus
Mormon Lesson of the Day: Sword-Wielding Angel Forced Joseph Smith Into Polygamy With Teenagers & Women Who Were Already Married Secret Truths Revealed Before this election, most non-members knew very little about the Mormon Church outside of the Word of Wisdom and its history of polygamy. However, during this election, the casual viewer of popular message boards will learn many false rumors about the Mormon Church. However, they can also learn many of the somewhat secret truths that the Mor
Something we tend not to think about is the idea that heroes, for all their great deeds, are also regular folks a large percentage of the time. That goes for writers, too--we're often regular people who just happen to achieve something that not everyone else does: we create worlds simply from words on a page. Take our WBBT guest for today, John David Anderson (who actually goes by Dave). Dave Anderson was just a regular guy who taught English for seven years at the University of Illinois at Ch
So I read a horrible story over at Matt Oxleys blog. The post I read this about was called “A friend in need”. Check it out for yourself. I typically trust Matt Oxley because I’ve known him for a few years, so if he’s vouching for the guy in the story I’m about to tell you all then, to me, it’s at least worth looking into rather than just dismissing. So look into it I did, and on Matt Oxley’s request, I’m making a post about it on my blog. Anyone who wants to make a post about it on THEIR bl
I recently rubbed shoulders with several people interested in Evangelism at the PC USA’s consultation on Evangelism at Stony Point NY. The person overseeing Evangelism for the Denomination Eric Hoey has encouraged me greatly. He has become a fan of this website and even has written an endorsement of it on his. I agree with him on many occasion and share a lot of the same passion to help people find faith in Christ. I find his passion to communicate his faith to be contagious. I’ve
Guys, this is the complete list of items I submitted to Konami. My apologies to everyone that doesn’t see their suggestions in the full list. I had to categorise and refine the suggestions a little, especially since I was told by Konami what their overall priorities for the next game would be. Problems with PES 2009 1. It’s possible to foul a player that has just passed the ball away, without any repercussions from the referee. This is plain wrong! 2. Trick stick – bring it back! I thin
An ongoing theme on a lot of blogs I read is the apportioning of blame for what is happening to our country, namely the immigration tidal wave, the egalitarian madness, and liberalism in general. Blame can be spread out among different groups or individuals, but it seems that the favorite culprits, at least among many on the right, are old-stock WASP elites, including the descendants of Puritan stock, and Christians generally. I suppose it's a losing battle to try to counter these recurring
Theo bad news confirmed + a change at the back might help Go To Topic: Theo Walcott So the club indirectly confirmed the bad news about Theo Walcott last night. While commentating for French TV Arsene Wenger said: Theo dislocated his shoulder during training, he will be out for at least three months. Well, great biskwits made of arse flotsam. That is bad news. Theo was established as our first choice right sided midfielder and the alternatives are a bit depressing. When he gets fit aga
Erotic Fairy Tales by Mitzi Szereto, pub. Cleis Press Watched by Mathilde Madden This is one of those covers where I guess I have to say upfront, yes, it is a nice picture. Of course, I did think that most fairy tales had men in them - Prince Charming, etc. But instead of any glimpse of a prince we get another ‘instructional’ book cover. Look she’s reading a book. That’s how to read this book, women, it’s smut - hold your tits whilst reading. Of course, as ever, men don’t need to be told vis
FINTAG COMMENT As predicted. Yesterday I said something would happen. And by all accounts it looks like another trigger of downward pain in the equities markets did happen. With anarchy on the seas, a dancing pig forced out of a reality TV show and the membership list of a far-right political party dumped onto the internet, all is not well. More importantly it looks like the end of the road for the current US car makers and Chapter 11 looms and consolidation beckons. The job losses will be hor
'Chinese Democracy' (Interscope), the first album of original tracks from Guns N’ Roses since 1991, debuted last night on the band's MySpace page. Axl Rose-fronted band has already released two tracks off 'Chinese' to radio - the album's title track, as well as 'Better,' in the last few weeks. But last night was the first time the entire album was available for streaming - well, legally, at least. Album is due out Sunday, Nov. 23, and will be available exclusively at Best Buy. Dear Mr. Boredom, I'm stuck at home doing almost nothing. Thanks to household chores that somehow keeps me a little productively preoccupied (i said a little) at the early part of the day. But when everything 'productive' is done, I'm again inside my room, most of the most of the most of the time. Sometimes I lay down on top of my irritated-already-bed (because she feels she's been working a lot in handling me sleep, at-least-8-hours-of-sleep-daily) reading a book, reading the Bible, taking so
This is a picture of an old can sitting on an old stump (in case you couldn’t figure it out). This photo is from the same washed out series of photos I took when Libby and I had gone down to Fallen Timbers a month ago. I boosted the contrast a bit, but the photo still lacks the crispness the camera seems to give when the battery has a full charge. I’m assured that battery life is not the issue though. Each winter we find a weekend when we can hike the perimeter of our woods. We do this just
Man, when I posted this topic for the bat around, it was something that I had wanted to hear about for a long time. We always get posts from everyone, but we never really get why the posts are coming in the first place. Im not talking about why they are posting on the blog, but why they are collecting what they are collecting. For me, I think I have a few labels I would use to describe myself, and all of them are things that have shaped my collection, my blog posts, and even my wax busting. Wha
